protontricks 50650 d3dcompiler_47
I've had some issues with positioning the camera correctly, and sometimes it seemed to drift on its own
Seems to slightly stutter at times
Without protontricks the game crashes after the intro logos
Be aware that it takes a loooooong time to load the main menu due to online services being disabled, but that's the same on Windows

Sometimes controller stops working after fast travel and stuff. Alt-tab the game to fix it.
Game related I guess
You cannot get this version anymore. Online services are not running. You need to go to offline mode in order to load into the main menu fast. You need to install protontricks and install d3dcompiler_47 via it. Otherwise the game will crash after logo screen.

install d3dcompiler_47
game stuck phoning home in title screen. turn on offline mode before playing

protontricks 50650 d3dcompiler_47 (not sure if necessary)
Install 'd3dcompiler_47'
Had few periods of fps drops down to 30's that was unexpected given the game's age
The game will soft-lock trying to connect to some offline service when going from titlescreen to main menu (this is also a problem on windows).
This can be circumvented by disabling WiFi before reaching the titlescreen and then you are free to re-enable it when you have entered the main menu.
Install d3dcompiler_47
The audio seemed a little out of balance. You will need to adjust to your tastes.
Darksiders 2 requires a load from the title screen to the main menu. On Windows, it can take a long time to load to the main menu. During the load screen, it is attempting to make an internet connection. Some people have issues where it gets stuck on this loading screen.
Linux/Proton appears to have this same issue. To fix the issue, either go offline with Steam or adjust your firewall/other programs on Linux to block Darksiders 2 from accessing the internet. Once blocked, Darksiders 2 will load instantly from the title screen to the main menu.
The protontricks modification to install d3dcompiler_47 appears to be a standard for the original Darksiders 1 and 2. Once done, the game will get the main title screen.
The other issue, being stuck loading to the main menu, is something inherent with Darksiders 2 on both Windows and Linux.
Running on 7.0-4 with no apparent issues for Linux/Proton during playtime.
