Setting the affinity to one core and the priority to Very High allows it to run but will cause it to skip frames from what I assume is loading the environment.
The videos can run with this setup, but I experienced the crashing at a particular video. I removed the videos folder as described in other reports to avoid the issue altogether.
The game can run and play pretty well with modifications. It appears the stability issues are most likely tied to loading videos and having an affinity greater than one core. I believe windows has something that prevents or corrects this issue, but the correct Linux configuration has not been found yet.
Running on 7.0-4 with no apparent issues for Linux/Proton during playtime.
The audio seemed a little out of balance. You will need to adjust to your tastes.
Darksiders 2 requires a load from the title screen to the main menu. On Windows, it can take a long time to load to the main menu. During the load screen, it is attempting to make an internet connection. Some people have issues where it gets stuck on this loading screen.
Linux/Proton appears to have this same issue. To fix the issue, either go offline with Steam or adjust your firewall/other programs on Linux to block Darksiders 2 from accessing the internet. Once blocked, Darksiders 2 will load instantly from the title screen to the main menu.

The protontricks modification to install d3dcompiler_47 appears to be a standard for the original Darksiders 1 and 2. Once done, the game will get the main title screen.
The other issue, being stuck loading to the main menu, is something inherent with Darksiders 2 on both Windows and Linux.
