Runs as it does on Windows after installing the patches and installing d3dx9 from protontricks
Some textures flicker very slightly
Runs more or less like it does on Windows. If your entire screen is black, you can open protontricks and install d3dx9 from the Windows DLLs menu or just turn off all the post-processing options in-game in the lower half of the graphics settings menu.

FPS Drops to under 20 unless the compatibility options are applied with Custom Proton GE 9-21. In Steam use Beta cpt_1.75_test_branch

For non-english Players:
- Set your Steam Language to your preferred ingame-language, otherwise there are no speed files in the Gothic directory and there is no audio

Soubor ge3.ini otevřeme v libovolném textovém editoru Najdeme textový řetězec (Ctrl+F) [Language] a pod ním Text=English a Subtitle.Entry_0=English Přepíšeme Text=English na Text=Czech Přepíšeme Subtitle.Entry_0=English na Subtitle.Entry_0=Czech Uložíme a zavřeme editor Zapneme Gothic 3 a začneme novou hru
Funguje perfektně s patchem 1.75

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Only about half the FPS I had under Windows
Use the 1.75 community patch. You can find it in Steam under Properties under Betas. Activate the patch before installing the game. If you already have the game installed, uninstall it, activate the beta, and then reinstall it.

I chenge verion in beta option on cpt_175_testbranch
I chek wrong computer (my laptop is to week for thys game)

sometimes fps drop (when I takeing torch in to the hand)
WARNING not work with Proto, to run thys game switch BETA setting in to ,,cpt_1.75_testbranch'' and run game without proton

Communety and paralelunivers Mods
Dialogue Audio is completly missing. I tried multiple Proton versions, with without mods, and different audio settings ingame. ive somone has a clue what coulde be wron gplease message
I get occasionaly stutters
NPC World Clipping
__GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP=1 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%
Goto: Gothic 3\Ini\ge3.ini and change Timer.ThreadSafe=false
for better performance
Playing with PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%
I couldn't use textures bigger than medium (save wouldn't load) Other than that I didn't notice any other problems.
For me, the mouse speed in the game is too slow - Like in Gothic 2 (I had to increase the mouse DPI because the mouse speed in the game options was not enough)
2 times I couldn't load a saved game. To load a saved game I had to start a new game and then load the game otherwise the game crash.
When starting the game, DO NOT USE PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
The game has very low FPS when playing with this setting!
Use PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%
to get high FPS
The game without community patch 1.75 is not stable.
For the game to work properly and more stable, install:
- Gothic 3 EE Patch v1.75.14 (or newer)
- Gothic 3 EE v1.75 Update Pack v1.04.11 (or newer)
- Gothic 3 Parallel Universe Patch v1.0.5 (or newer)
To install these 3 mods you will need a simulated Windows environment (I used the Bottles app)
FPS on my settings:
- In Cities: 60-100 FPS
- Outside the cities: 110-160 FPS
I couldn't use textures bigger than medium (save wouldn't load) Other than that I didn't notice any other problems.
- You can always use
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
but then the game has very low FPS (Max. 70 FPS outside the citie / 30-45 FPS In cities)

make sure to install all dependencies inside the redist folder of your game as well as the parallel universe patch
font kerning issues
performance issues are non existing when installing the parallel universe patch (https://www.worldofgothic.de/dl/download_678.htm)
Use the Patch 1.75 from Steam Beta
Beta Patch and it Works Good

tuning ini file + community patches
It's running however, the performance was quite low for my system, unless I installed following patches...
Community Patch compatible to the other patches: https://www.worldofgothic.de/dl/download_478.htm Gothic 3 Parallel Universe Patch for multithreading support (mandatory for none highend cpus): https://www.worldofgothic.de/dl/download_678.htm g3.ini tuning (eye candy, distances): https://www.worldofgothic.de/dl/download_516.htm
Then everything was fine.
The results of my other tests are maybe of interest:
RX 560D (amdgpu): performance is good, however vegetation is missing, eye candy has to be turned off (blackscreen) UHD (iris) : renders just blackscreen
Using Wine3D for AMD and Intel doesn't solve the problem, it's just much slower. If you are ready for total tinkering and if you have to much time, this is the working solution for you:
- gpu using gallium drivers (e.g. amdgpu, iris)
- mesa compiled with d3d9 support
- recent wine with 32 bit support
- winetricks
- DirectX9 + Direct3D compiler 4.7 installed with winetricks
- gallium nine standalone 0.8
- gallium nine enabled in wine
- run Gothic3 directly through wine

Modified binary / Community patch
Theoretically the beta branch provided by steam is the correct version, however it's detected wrong by the installer of the parallel universe patch. Therefore the community patch has to be applied manually again.
Community Patch https://www.worldofgothic.de/dl/download_478.htm
The gamechanger to all my unsuccessful approaches before is this community patch:
Gothic 3 Parallel Universe Patch https://www.worldofgothic.de/dl/download_678.htm
It gives Gothic 3 multithreading support which is necessary to make it run on CPUs with non monster single threading cores.
The next step is the correct tuning of the game's graphic options. Objectdetail and distances can be set to maximum, texture filtering to AF, texture quality to medium and everything else has to be turned off (these settings will kill the performance, lowering has no positive effect)
In the end Gothic 3 is running at 50-85fps at 1080p now.

Runs but only unplayable
activated DOF caused black rendering
Horribly slow. 5 - 17 fps on 720p lowest detail. The testsystem is outdated, but used to be highend in the days of Gothic 3.
There is something very wrong with that game. CPU usage is only 75% of one core and the GPU is sleeping. Tested vanilla + 1.75.14 community patch.
You need to export controller config as template, then change game version to 1.75 in beta and import config
Export gamepad config as template and then change vesion in beta branch to 1.75. Import that template
Standard gothic 3 things ;)
Game did not recognise mouse inputs. Beta branch fixes it
3hours of battery life. Not much difference between settings
No crashes. lags only when caching shaders. Proton-6.20-GE-1 / Gothic 3 : CM + QP + LTM Launch options: gamemoderun __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATION=1 __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP=1 PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 %command%
Do not here speaking of any charakter (no voices). No random background voices, no voices of quest-characters.
Can't change language. It wil persist in English, undependently of language setting. (Tried my prefered language and others)
I had used Legacybranch, wouldn't recommend. Had stabilty issues with it. I m using Proton Experimental for it.
Mouse sometimes not read clicking on the item to choose them
Game shutdown unexpected about after 30 minutes
Community Patch 1.75.14
Often dropdowns to 1-3 fps, nothing helps
Played with Proton 6.3-7 and options PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Other than english languages appears only with community patch.

Mouse some times not properly recaptured
The base game as it's shipped by steam works and so does the community patch and the quest pack (I personally recommend to check them out from worldofgothic before you start your first playthrough since it improves a lot of the initial issues)

Does not work out of the box.
There seems to be a problem regarding directx9 but I could not find a solution. Game renders everything in pitch black.
Works out of the Box. I found that occasional stuttering is because it's Gothic 3

Ultrawide requires Beta branch. Switching requires reinstall
Choppy and laggy no matter the detail level. Unplayable in true Gothic 3 fashion
The game runs more or less like it does on windows. I experienced frame drops, however i had those even on windows.
When using some spells in the game it suddenly crashed.

Works well out of the box
Gothic 3 on Steam has a version with the latest community patch (currently 1.75) as a beta branch. It's under Properties -> Betas.
Make sure you enable the beta before you install the game. If you already installed the game, then uninstall it , enable the beta, and then reinstall.
Also, keep in mind that the first time setup stage takes a few minutes to finish. Let it do its thing, and hit "next" when asked.
Worked out of the box (except the standard Gothic 3 Problems). I played 7h without community patch and 29h with.
1.75 patch does not work when selected
worked fine. no crash with spells. no stuttering
seems playable overall. save often!
sometimes it stutters
crash when using light spell
It runs quite good. 100FPS+ (with typical g3 drops)
On Proton 5.x Fireballs crashed the game and torch didnt work properly. Reverting to 4.x fixed that issue
In my case the performance was too poor. Game was hardly playable with such low fps.
Overall low fps, way below 30.
you need quiet performant hardware for it to be playable
terrible performance. not playable in Full HD with low details on this GPU

on Windows this game works beter.
not correct DPI in the box
some times i have problems with mouse control
On proton 5.0.4 - crash before, or in time use flambeau or firebolt or samething like fire.
sometimes have crashes? i do not now why.
Game works fine after I uninstalled and reinstalled it, seems proton forgot to install critical dependencies the first time around.
There is a community patch 1.74 that people may find useful, community patch 1.75+update MAY or MAY NOT work.
Game tries to load but quits out with a runtime error, tested with DXVK 1.5.2 and WineD3D9 AND D9VK enabled, both produce the same result.
Runs out of the box.
I tried both versions (standard and cpt_1.75 from the Steam betas) and they work perfectly. I played in English initially, now I'm playing in French. Everything works as it did a year ago on this very same computer but under Win7.
On proton 4.11-8 works fine.
The issue is that Steam seems not to be able to install cpt 1.75 through beta section under Linux. I got ~40-50fps on highest in the starting section at 1080p. That's 1.6 version of the game I mind you. Official 4.11-8 works fine but unofficial 4.15ge or tkg4.20 fail to get into game. 4.15ge has issues with resolution while tkg4.20 freezes after finishing loading into save. If I will have some time I may try to get game running under 4.20 as it seems to give nice performance boosts.
playable
minor font issues
