That's why you need to use GE-Proton7-49. It's the only proton that fixs the strange green lines
I'm play at 60 fps. Steam Performace tab: Disabled Frame Limit, Allow tearing On, TDP Limit 12 Watts. In Game: Shadows and Texture Quality at High, Anti-Aliasing at FX-AA3HQ, 60 FPS, 60 Hz, VSync off

In the end is very fluid, plays like on windows, but when you start it if you have to build the vulkan shaders you better put up some yt because it will take almost an hour.

Some text is too small and/or too thin for the screen.
Make sure to use the latest version of GE-Proton for the best experience. And if you're like me and hate that there's no item box, download this mod here: https://www.nexusmods.com/residentevil0biohazard0hdremaster/mods/39

powertools powersave cpu governor -> persistent profile on
colored line glitches after unlocking second character
I tried GEProton7-49, GEProton7-18, proton official 9, proton official 8, proton official 7, hotfix and experimental, nothing fixes the glitches anymore as it used to before.

TDP 10W, GPU Freq. 1200MHz
Shows as not compatible, but works OOT in Steam Deck without tinkering anything. However, after unlocking the second character (20 minutes after new game) red artifacts appear on the train level with lightning glitches. Using Proton-GE 7-49 is needed to play it without this issue.
This game makes the steam deck go crazy, forcing the CPU, throttling the system and draining battery. It does not hold 60FPS with the default settings, however, this settings make the game play perfectly, at 60FPS with no slowdowns and amazing battery performance:
TDP settings: 10-12W. GPU Clock: 1000-1200MHz
For full screen without black bars:
Resolution: 1280x720, Windowed Scalling options: Fill

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8.dll=n,b" %command%
Red an green lines using other proton versions instead of GE-Proton7-49
Download Resident evil 0 fusion and use WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8.dll=n,b" %command% to more graphical configs and skip door opening scene

Until this is fixed I don't see a reason for anyone to play it.
Red and green lines everywhere (started a save a little bit more forward in the train)

can confirm with 7-49 you need to wait during steam loading screen at least 5 minutes. then it exited automatically, upon relaunch the game worked as normal and all the visual bugs were no longer present in the train level

decky - powertools governor powersave, or the game runs at 100% throttle when it's unnecessary
To fix red lines on train after second character is introduced, GE-Proton7-49.
BE PATIENT - had to wait 5 minutes on first launch (spinning steam logo) to boot this version of proton-GE. It's likely silently doing a 2GB shader cache download.

With the default Proton, you will get some artifacts (looks like demo tv picture). I think it's because some codecs are missing in the default Proton. But with GE-Proton the game is working fine and without any problems.

Changed right trackpad to mouse so the cursor (always visible) could be moved to corner of screen where it is not visible.
Used powertools plugin through Decky Loader to force 'powersave' governor. Without it, game ramps up CPU for no good reason.
Took a bit to find a GE-Proton version that did not result in visual artifacts when the train starts moving (after you gain second character). Some people reported 7-49 working but only 7-18 resulted in an artifact free experience for me. Powertools (powersave governor) necessary to prevent crazy thermals on deck.

PowerTools -> CPU Governor to 'powersave' > enable Persistent Profile. otherwise the game will always max out the cpu frequency without need
To play in proper 4:3 mode on the Deck screen without windowboxing, set the resolution to 1920x800 windowed, open steam OS quick settings and set scaling mode to zoom. Cutscenes still have windowboxing though.
Mouse cursor stays on screen and is very annoyeing, there's a mod to hide it.

With the official versions of Proton I had artifacts in some situations. Only the customized GE-Proton9-2 version worked perfectly.

TDP Limit 12w
Audio stutter when returning from sleep
Not a good setup to start and play on the deck. Requires installing a specific ProtonGE to avoid graphical glitches and crashes. Then it pulls all the juice out of the deck to maintain 60fps. 12w was the best I could find to keep locked 60fps, but it still runs hot with ~2:00 battery time. Emulating the GC version might be an easier option, even if using doorskip cheat.

Used protontricks to install wmp-11
Game crashed once during playthrough
Proton GE 7-49 did not startup when launched, however I did not encounter issues with the current GE version once I installed wmp11 using protontricks

Was able to play fine using this version of proton (GE-Proton7-49), any others give graphical artifacts. Wayland also seems to work better.
gamemoderun WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" DXVK_ASYNC=1 SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland %command%
I used a 4GB awareness patch, and I also use the Item Box Mod hence the extra bits in the launch options, though with these bits it works great ^~^
There is an occasional glitch when alt-tabbing to and from the game, where it may make the game appear very tiny in the top left corner. Alt-tabbing out and back in will fix.

- TDP Target 7w
- GPU Core Target 800-900 MHz
No bugs at all, just needs Proton GE 7-49, and a steam input config.

Works perfectly well, but ONLY with GE-Proton7-49. Any other version will either fail to launch, or have graphical artifact or crash.
The first launch can take some time depending on your internet connection, as it will download approx. 2Go of components required for the game to run

In the scene where I go on the roof of the train for the first time, the entire background becomes colored stripes (like the no signal screen of cable TV). I tried to ignore it and continue playing, which immediately resulted in the game becoming unresponsive.
In the cut scenes, the visuals frequently freeze while the audio plays smoothly, causing an increasing amount of delay between the visuals and the audio.
After having no success with either Proton8.0-3 or GE-Proton7-49, I tried Proton Experimental, which at the time of this report is based on Proton 8.0. It works much better than the former two, almost leading me to believe I could finish the game with it. I'm glad I held off writing a report here, because it turned out a failure too.

I followed the advice from multiple previous ProtonDB reports and forced the compatibility layer to GE-Proton7-49 (installed for Steam via ProtonUp-Qt), but cannot launch the game. The loading screen shows an animated Valve logo at the center, with STEAM MENU
at the bottom left and ABORT GAME
at the bottom right.
Using the default Proton8.0-3, I can launch the game, but the first cut scene (and I can safely assume, all the cut scenes in the game) cannot play correctly. The issues described in this Reddit thread seem to be the same as mine: https://old.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/xzuvey/tried_playing_resident_evil_0_on_my_steam_deck/

On GE-Proton7-49 runs perfect. Other versions give problems on audio during videos
worked like a charm seems i got lucky
Works great, but you needs to use GE-Proton7-49 specifically. At the time of writing, any newer version of GE-Proton will result in some corrupt backgrounds (any that are functionally FMVs, like the first save room). If you use this specific Proton version, it will play fine.
Green lines on the train section
Crashed upon wake from sleep and reset the device
Gpu clock 800 TPD 9 Watts
With GE 7-49 no colored line in the train area. runs perfectly. Please note that the first launch of the game will take a good a min stuck on the steam logo, be patient. After that the game should start normally. If you used another proton version before and want to use 7-49 now, before launching the game go to the options, "developer" and "delete proton files" or the game wil probably not start at all.
The game is unplayable on Steam Deck with default or experimental Proton due to frequent crashes.
Thin lines are drawn across the screen in certain scenes
The game seems to be stuck in 720p desite that the in-game settings support setting the resolution to 1280x800.
The game occasionally freezes when changing camera angles (from the character running off screen and the camera changes to a new viewpoint in the current room). Oddly, while the game freezes up, I can still bring up the pause menu, so it's not completely frozen. It seem it gets stuck trying to load the new camera angle. Regardless, it's impossible to proceed when this happens.
The game may be playable with significant tweaks but I have not tested this.
8w is perfect
The game works perfectly with proton GE 7-18 I was able to finish the game with no problem. Thx reddit
I was roped in by the siren song of such a STELLAR experience with RE1 on Proton and didn't even consider this would be totally unplayable.
With Proton 7.0-5: After meeting up with Billy for the second time and immediately after the leech man cutscene there are Red, Green and Blue, diagonal lines drawn across the screen. The backgrounds then become washed out and grayscale in the worst cases.
Same artifacts with Proton Next 7.0-6
Some stuttering between camera transitions
Proton 7.0-5: able to complete the train area with the visual artifacts, when in the second area sewers the moment I pressed A on the ladder to climb out the game crashed entirely out.
Proton 7.0-6: At the point where billy is going to the rear of the train to trigger the brakes, when entering the SECOND passenger car(third car overall I believe), a black background with the "saving" red leech circle spinning over and over appeared, I could hear in the background I was being attacked, no controller response and the black screen never went away. Finally it went away when the conductor zombie killed Billy, I got the You Are Dead screen followed by a totally black screen that would not go away. Had to alt+tab to force quit the game
Proton experimental: would not play at all ERR09 Unsupported Function Glorious Egroll GE-Proton 7-46: would not play at all ERR09 Unsupported Function
I HATE to think I have to dual boot a Windows install for this but IMAGINE getting these kind of game crashes during a speed run.

No major issues encountered.
Game ran perfectly, no issues with video backgrounds either even without installing wmp11 (I have installed it with other games with winetricks, unsure if it works for other games if you do this since every guide tells you to use the game ID when installing)
Plays perfectly with default Proton, including videos. Draws a lot of battery though, despite low CPU/GPU usage.
gamemoderun DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
On first part(train) some green and purple lines appears on reflections or light, so far, only on this part this happened.
When i'm running on Proton 7 or 6, occasionaly the game crashes, resolved switching to Proton experimental(bleeding-edge).
Play OK, considering minor issues. And funny on my PC the game runs better on linux, for some reason on Windows the game drops the fps and stutters a lot i don't know why.
Install winetrick/protontricks:
sudo apt install winetricks
sudo apt install python3-pip python3-setuptools python3-venv
python3 -m pip install --user pipx
~/.local/bin/pipx ensurepath
Restart the terminal and then run:
pipx install protontricks
You must have launched the game at least once before performing the next step:
protontricks 339340 wmp11
During the first area (Train) and when on elevators in other levels:
- Distorted background colors
- Diagonal thin lines
With Proton Experimental some backgrounds were not rendered making the game unplayable. Using Proton GE the graphical artifacts were minimal and only when inside the train. All other levels of the games were fine (with the exception of the elevators scenes).
Gpu clock 600, TPD 9 Watts
diagonal lines in certain rooms after obtaining second character
Gamepad configs treat A button as Down
There are color artifacts (several colorful lines on screen) in some scenes
Crashed once
There is colorful test screen instead of background in some scenes (unplayable). Proton-GE fixes this issue, but colorful lines glitch still there...

This game relies on video backgrounds, when half of them are corrupted and some turn into a video test screen it's not really playable
'Corrupted' videos used as background, missing videos used as backgrounds (test screen)
Might work using wine/proton tricks
