PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
There are a few minor errors (No family picture in launch screens, sometimes artefacts when cars arrive) that don't interfere with the gameplay.
I had to set launch options to get the game to start (a fix suggested for Sims 3 worked).

Works fantastically. The legacy release is a lifesaver for a game notorious to get running on modern hardware.
The game is intended to be played with a mouse, so you'll mostly be using the trackpad. Designed for low resolutions originally, so the deck screen size doesn't hurt.

Using Proton-GE is a personal preference. Should work fine using latest steam proton.

Works perfect right out of the box, even better than on windows.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=90 %command%
Screen resolution was weird initially, have to check the option for square pixel in menu

DXVK_FRAME_RATE=90 %command%
I've played 10hs and it only crashed one time after I created a family, so I added that launch option and it hasn't happened so far. I don't know if there's necessarily any correlation...

Pressing the fullscreen buttons may cause the game to 'freak out' a bit for a second but it'll go back to normal if you wait. Game doesn't go windowed without a launch parameter.
Works as expected. Be prepared to turn down the graphics a notch for cutscenes to be smooth. Windowing and alt-tab isn't great, but it only causes short delays, the game won't break.
Runs perfectly on my laptop out of box with no tinkering needed

Text can be incredibly small. UI isn't natively adjustible.
Some bugs

I just hit install, and everything works great.

flawless experience works great my sims wont stop woohooing help
No bugs or crashes specifically on Linux! The same bugs also happen on Windows.

%command% -w -r1280x720
Works fine, but in windowed mode.

It's classic The Sims for me.
I recommend using windowed mode: %command% -w
Works well out of the box.
Turn antialiasing off if frames are low for no discernible reason
Seems it refuses to use dGPU, but on modern hardware it seems antialiasing is the biggest performance hit.
Tried all sorts of GPU settings in a previous report to try and force GPU usage, to no avail. But fiddling with settings until things became stable worked.
Works!
alt tab crashes

Garuda Linux is Arch based for those of you who may not know of it.
I used Proton Experimental (but don't know that that was required). I experienced zero issues.
Doesn't seem a common problem, but game ignoring GPU selection makes standard resolutions unplayable when using the iGPU.
On Ubuntu 24.04 with an intel igpu and nvidia dgpu, game refuses to use the dedicated GPU and tanks frames at anything above 800p resolution. Have tried all force-selection fixes I can find. Results range from nothing to errors about Direct X 9 compatibility to crash on launch with no message.
All attempts refuse to use the dGPU, so framerate is abysmal
fingers crossed for a fix soon

There was a crash at one point but I have confirmed with a windows user that they had the same crash, it's a game bug

Worked out of the box. Didn't need to change anything to get it working.
No proper borderless windowed mode as of now. Missing certain stuff from the community version.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=90 %command%

Works extremely well with no noticable issues.
Like The Sims, no attitional software appears to be running in the background. The game runs smooth and there is a lot of display and graphics options which don't crash the game. A lot easier to run than the original game installed via... DVD... yeah DVD.

On exit the audio may turn crackly and continue for a second or two.
Defaults to potato graphics, but you can fix them after the game launches.
