Game starts up just fine with all default configuration. Might have been fixed on proton side since the earlier report? Performance is the same as before as well. Personally using 100% scaling on Standard settings preset, locked to 45 fps for consistency.

Forced Experimental and letting Steam choose only gets me to the Worlds II Update Info screen and then it crashes.

Set refresh rate to 30fps and run the game with fsr on in settings at balanced. Might be able to get 45 with dips.
Fun game to play in handheld.

GOG Galaxy will sometimes just not start when launched via Steam. Simply trying again usually works
I bought the game on GOG when that was the easiest way to run it on Linux, before Proton came out. I was able to run it in multiplayer with the Steam Deck controls, but I have to launch it through GOG Galaxy; otherwise it's locked to single player. And I have to launch GOG Galaxy via Steam; otherwise I can't use the Steam Deck's controls.
I installed GOG Galaxy using Heroic Games Launcher to run the installer downloaded from GOG's website (in Heroic's Library, click Add Game, then Run Installer First). Since I had little space in the Deck's internal drive, I wanted to install to an SD card, which I was able to do by running winecfg on the GOG Galaxy installation (Heroic has an option to do this: click the settings icon below the GOG Galaxy image, then scroll down and click WINECFG) and mapping the card's folder in /run/media/ to a Windows drive (in winecfg, go to the Drives tab, click Add, and navigate to /run/media/<your SD card's name>). Then I told GOG Galaxy to install the game to the drive letter I added.
It seems like GOG Galaxy requires Proton 8 even though No Man's Sky can use older versions.
When I told Heroic to add GOG Galaxy to Steam, it did it in a weird way where the executable is just "flatpak" and the instruction to run GOG Galaxy via Heroic Games Launcher is in the launch options by default. Move all those launch options to the end of the executable instead, and use launch options: gamemoderun %command%
Runs well out of the box, can be fine tuned depending on anyones performance preferences.

Reduced wattage
Slow loading of frigate geo during warps.

Lowered mouse sensitivity tp 10% in the in-game settings for greater comfort with the right control stick
Standard SD-control templates don't work anymore. Made a Community solution.
After the Echoes-update, the controllers default to mouse and keys no matter which template you choose, official or community. I've tried to make everything playable with the Community template "Arcade Cookie's July 2024 Steam Deck Gamepad Mapping". Download it, make further adjustments to the template or in-game if desired, and go explore... SPACE!

lowered base complexity to minimum (my friends like building things) and fps limited to 30 to cool it down
Multiplayer works fine on Steam Deck, but didn't work on PC. (No error displayed on Linux side, and PS5 side showed a generic error.)

online works perfectly, because in no man's sky there is a full cross play between all platforms except the switch, I was able to play with my friends who bought the game on steam, and I was also able to complete tasks in the nexus with random players
the gog version of the game installed via gog galaxy works fine, the game almost always works at a stable 60fps on standard graphics settings, only sometimes there may be small drawdowns, but they are not frequent and do not interfere with playing

The Game doesn't have many graphical settings to being with so it can get slow at times with no good fixes
Not any Graphic settings lower than standerd and controlls take a bit to get used too but works well and is fun on Steam Deck a majority of the time.
Alles, außer die Auflösung, so niedrig gestellt wie möglich.

Game works great. Just set it to 40 fps and sometimes it gets a little bit stuck but it's playable and a good experience.

I've spent almost 50 hours in the game, playing on the Deck, and have encountered no problems; it's been a perfect experience so far.
No problems doing Nexus missions, etc.
Just works.

Text that is rendered as part of a 3D model (for example starship speed) is very blurry and pixelated on the default graphical settings.
Often freezes when exiting the game. Also sometimes crashes when starting up. No stability issues when in game.

If you make the settings I use you will have less stuttering in the game, it is a good experience this way the game runs smoother
Screen refresh rate: 41hz TDP: 10w FSR: ON/Sharpness 5
The game has stuttering, you can deduce this way:
1- do not force the use of the compatibility tool, (do not use proton the game works better)
2- reset graphic settings to default
3- window mode with borders (so that fsr is activated
4- resolution 1152x720
5- maximum FPS 41 (you can leave it at 60 but at 40 you have a more stable frame time
6- V-Sync Triple Buffer
7- Graphics in standard configuration, improved base complexity
8- anisotropic filtering: 2
9- GTAO: standard
10- Antialiasing: FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0
11- Quality FSR 2.0: Quality
12- Movement trail: 180
You may experience some lag and fps drops when new players arrive at the Anomaly, overall multiplayer is playable

The game runs well with the settings on Low - Medium, it will never run constantly 60/40 fps, but in the end it is a game that generates its planets permanently and it does not run constantly even on an Ultra High-end computer.

Great performance, I suggest using FSR 2.0 as makes the game very playable at almost 60fps (dips do occur but they do also on powerful pcs)
Hangs when exiting a planet

Text is quite small and hard to read when docked to a TV.
Overall playable but text elements can be hard to read. Especially if you're docked to a TV, I found myself straining to read it at a distance. It might not be as bad if you're playing with it in your hand.

Constant stuttering no matter what FPS I was targeting (30, 40, 60). Impossible to get a consistent frame time graph.
Constant stuttering no matter what FPS I was targeting (30, 40, 60). Impossible to get a consistent frame time graph. Also tried the Valve recommended Proton version.

No problems at all

Quick hang when entering space from a planet's atomosphere
Occasional model resizing glitches, hitbox innaccuracies, and some floating ships.
Works well with a couple minor bug in multiplayer
Played it a bunch on my steamdeck. No issues.

Audio when connected to Bluetooth headphones is totaly broken on multiple Proton versions. Easy Fix is connecting to headphones after launching the game.
Runs great beside mentioned Bluetooth Audio issues.
Deck Performance framerate limiter set to 30 FPS, Watts set to 5. In game set FSR to 2x (I think it was called Performance)
There's no binding for sprint in the default scheme. There's also no binding for shoot in the starship by default, but you can change weapons. Looking around with the thumbstick on foot, or using the touch pads, it's got a weird almost rubber-banding effect. I'm pretty sure it's the way the game handles the input because my spouse reported similar issues using an Xbox contoller on Windows. We don't have this problem on Linux/Windows using a mouse.
Certain text in menus can be difficult to read at times.
Repeatedly given an error stating that it could not connect and to check firewall. Nothing was blocking the game from connecting to multiplayer in any of the Steam Deck's settings in Gaming Mode or Desktop Mode.
Occasional frame drops down to about 30-40 fps when loading in a large player-created base, but nothing unplayable.
Having a controller seems to casue a crash after the new update. playing with KB&M seems to work.

Minor artificating when rendering shadows
Using proton experimental improves the stability of the game overall. However, the biggest fix has been setting up Cryoutilities 2.0 which has fixed most stuttering issues and allowed for better performance. I currently run the game at medium-high settings at 40fps with an overclocked GPU/CPU and increased TDP (with additional cooling). If you don't want cryoutilties lock the GPU at 1600mhz to fix stuttering.
40hz / 40 fps with all standard graphics
Lots of stuttering in default configuration. Was stable once at 40fps with standard graphics
The game work perfecly fine on Steam Deck. I set all settings to standard and texture to enhanced. The game stay at 40fps.
To improve battery without to much compromise, i set the steam deck to 40Hz / 40fps
The game runs out of the box on the Steam Deck. All settings set standand, only texture on enhanced. I rarely encounter stuttering with this settings. To be fair, with my PC i encounter same "stuttering" with Ryzen 7 3700X and RTX 3070. So.. for me it's the same experience than on my computer (except for graphic settings). Default inputs are ok for me.
loading with lots of light rays causes it to crash always. when it fully loads, tiny text and terrible performance on low not worth the 5 hours spent trying to get it to work
