PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
starts in fullscreen, but youcant click "through" the transparent parts, but resizing it fixes it
With Wine 3d (OpenGL) instead of Default Vulcan, the transparency works as expected
-windowed -w 1024 -h 768
Screen is black
Screen is black
Just the fact that the screen is mostly black rendering this game kinda pointless as it isn't playable as intended.
-windowed -w 1024 -h 768
Works perfect, when loads, Alt Gr + Enter to set it windowed, close game > reopen game, voila! Works like in windows
It's playable, but not as intended.
The point of the game is that it's sitting as an idle game on the bottom of the screen. But everything else on the screen is black, you cannot work on your other stuff in parallel.
gamescope -w 2560 -h 296 -W 2560 -H 296 -b -- %command%
As others have stated, launching without the gamescope options will result in a mostly black fullscreen window. With the gamescope options, though, KDE will not position the window correctly.
I do not know the equivalent for other DEs/WMs, but for KDE/kwin, you can put the following in your ~/.config/kwinrulesrc
:
[7f96cf86-2f88-4bd9-ab94-43e2c6914ad1]
Description=Window settings for Rusty's Retirement
above=true
aboverule=2
noborder=true
noborderrule=2
position=0,1144
positionrule=2
size=2560,296
sizerule=2
title=Rusty's Retirement
titlematch=1
wmclass=gamescope
wmclassmatch=1
Note that this config is for a 2560x1440 monitor. Edit the position and size fields appropriately.
Black screen instead of transparancy
not a idle game anymore, more a "block your entire screen" game here
Runs fullscreen with a black BG as stated. Gamescope launch options cause it not to launch.
Not much fun to look at like this, and the semi-mitigative steps don't work for me.
gamescope -w 2560 -h 296 -W 2560 -H 296 -b -- %command%
game doesn't work as intended, even with above gamescope launch option. you won't be able to do things in the background, and even if you're okay with that, part of the screen is still covered up by a black bar.
your enjoyment will vary depending on how you planned to play this game. the game itself runs fine, but the main draw of it doesn't work
No transparecy defeats the whole purpose of the game
No transparency
gamescope -w 2560 -h 296 -W 2560 -H 296 -b -- %command%
Centers in the middle of the screen with gamescope resolution shrinking - fixable by right clicking taskbar icon > more > move and moving it to the bottom of my desktop
Thanks to shoulder for the gamescope command, works fine with that command
gamescope -w 2560 -h 296 -W 2560 -H 296 -b -- %command%
Black screen instead of transparent
Black area instead of transparent
using launch options as per everyone else's comment causes the game to not launch at all
Setting the resolution to a height of 296 will show just the game and not the black screen on the rest of the monitor.
gamescope -w 2560 -h 296 -W 2560 -H 296 -b -- %command%
Without limiting the resolution with launch options, the game turns the rest of the screen black
On KDE, the game appears in the middle of the screen, but I just right click it on the taskbar, select more, then move, and it can be moved to the bottom.
Kinda works, but not how it was meant to.
env WINEPREFIX="/DIRECTORY_PATH/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2666510/pfx" wine64 winecfg
This did not work for me. Launches the game in the window as specified, there are game sounds, but the screen is just blue.
env WINEPREFIX="/DIRECTORY_PATH/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2666510/pfx" wine64 winecfg
Did not work for me. Game lauches with sound, but the screen is blue.
gamescope -w 1920 -h 296 -W 1920 -H 296 -o 60 -b -- %command%
Part of the screen is black instead of fully transparent.
Workaround for the black screen problem was to use gamescope and force the resolution to 1920x296, this will slighly crop the splash screen menu. A possible alternative is to set your other windows to be always on top.
The game plays, but the alt-tabbing in and out may degrade the experience.
Game runs in fullscreen mode with a large black space above it as a full screen window. Need to alt-tab in and out of it to keep it running in the background.
Other than the problems specified it works fine.
Works great once you modify the desktop size that wine is emulating and disable the titlebar
As suggested by user Paeniche, the following works:
"Run the command: env WINEPREFIX="/DIRECTORY_PATH/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2666510/pfx" wine64 winecfg
in any console/terminal and change the graphics settings to have proton emulate a virtual desktop of size 1920 x 480 (could not go smaller than 480). To fix the issue with proton not allowing me to make a shorter emulated desktop, I changed the in-game taskbar settings to be 150px and then shortened the virtual desktop.
Make sure to replace DIRECTORY_PATH in the above command with the path to your steam library. Utilize "Browse Local Files" in Steam to find the path"
The "blank space" above the game is rendered as black, requiring the mentioned workaround discovered by Paeniche.
Run the command:
env WINEPREFIX="/DIRECTORY_PATH/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2666510/pfx" wine64 winecfg
in any console/terminal and change the graphics settings to have proton emulate a virtual desktop of size 1920 x 480 (could not go smaller than 480). To fix the issue with proton not allowing me to make a shorter emulated desktop, I changed the in-game taskbar settings to be 150px and then shortened the virtual desktop.
Make sure to replace DIRECTORY_PATH in the above command with the path to your steam library. Utilize "Browse Local Files" in Steam to find the path
Game is meant to be played over the user's desktop, on proton only a black screen is shown since the desktop is not being sent through to the game. See tinker steps for workaround
This seems to be due to how Linux desktop environments handle displaying fullscreen games that don't actually use up all of the "realestate". Since this game is in fact a fullscreen game, the desktop environment fills in the remaining area with the black background. Messing with transparency does not affect this. My guess is that we will need a way to tell the DE to not fill the unused space with anything for this to work as intended on Linux.
Like others have mentioned, this game does not show you what's behind it on Linux. This seems to be due to how Linux desktop environments handle displaying fullscreen games that don't actually use up all of the "realestate". Since this game is in fact a fullscreen game, the desktop environment fills in the remaining area with the black background. Messing with transparency does not affect this. Unusable for its intended purpose without proper windowed mode support.
Game shows big black screen with the game at the bottom, but the upper half should be transparent.
Upper portion of screen is black when it should be transparent and game cannot be forced into running windowed.
Not working as intended yet.
Top portion of screen is supposed to be transparent, but on Linux desktop it is all black.
Still the upper "half" of screen is black. I was not able to fix that with anything
The game itself is fun and runs fine - however, the main purpose of it is to do other things while playing, which is not currently possible
Top of screen (that is meant to be used to browse or do other things) is black
Upperhalf of screen is black and can't be used for other things
Game is fun and works well. Only draw back is the inability to play as intended, a window kept on top of other things on the montors bottom.
Game is supposed to only window and take up small portion of lower screen. Windows emulation causes rest of screen to become black and not transparent.
Regardless of the upper black area, the game still makes a lot of fun.
when the game is running the top half of my screen is black.
