While some external addons (like BBS & Omninavigation) doesn't work, the standalone games run flawless & better than under Windows
PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%
Sometimes the screen might freeze if you press alt to select the spawn bus menu for example, to unfreeze you must click the screen again. Also menus can get temporarily hidden under marco window manager
It's not possible to use the BBS or omninavigation addons
The standalone game runs great, but external addons seems to not work at all

PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 WINED3D=1 %command%
KDE Panel would sometimes draw over the game.
The map sometimes fails to load correctly when driving around, but this happens on Windows as well.
Lots of tinkering with control setup needed and alt menu doesn't consistently open and close
Used left track pad as touch menu and mapped keyboard shortcuts to buttons
Alt has to be mapped to a controller button to open and close Alt menu
Alt menu overlays game window
Opening steam menu to adjust control mapping restarted steam deck
Not perfect, but it isn't on Windows either. You're basically trading some annoying UI bugs for better stability and performance. It's fine.
PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 WINED3D=1 %command%
- Game runs by default in a borderless window with a fully visible taskbar which sits on top of it. Haven't been able to get it to fullscreen properly, but this is tolerable.
- Sometimes UI windows and dialogue boxes get stuck behind the game window. Alt+TAB doesn't work since the window manager (GNOME, at least) sees all OMSI windows as belonging to the same program. I use ALT+Drag to move the borderless game window and reveal any menus stuck underneath. Fortunately this doesn't happen often.
When installing mods on Linux, the asset folders in the OMSI directory are CASE SENSITIVE. If new vehicles aren't showing up in the menu, or modded maps are loading to a blank void, check you don't have any duplicate asset folders with differently cased letters. For example: "Sceneryobjects" is the correct directory for map objects, but a mod might install a second folder e.g. "SceneryObjects", which the game will not look in. In such instances, you'll need to merge that folder's contents with the correctly cased folder. This isn't a problem on Windows, since the NTFS filesystem doesn't normally treat directories as case sensitive.
I've tried running Map Tools, which is a community debugging tool for OMSI which loads up a map, detects missing assets and helps you figure out why it's not loading properly. Both with and without protontricks, the program hangs and won't work.
I've found the game runs smoother, and with far fewer crashes than on Windows - thus far, no crashes at all, likely thanks to DXVK. Still no change to the huge lagspikes when loading new parts of the map, but that's an issue with the game itself.
Game doesn't start.
PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%
Game runs slower on smaller maps
Worked out of the box
Worked perfect, no issues what so ever. Vulcan Shaders can take a minute or 2 at game launch
Honestly, I got no clue in which mode the game launches in. It looks like Fullscreen, but the taskbar is always visible and there is no way, that I can find, to change the mode.
between 15 and 40 fps
The game crashes if I try to open the Steam Overlay. Have to close Steam, which will cause the game to close aswell.
Alt menu in particular is buggy; tabbing around while the game is loading causes it to fail to load
Slightly lower FPS but given how OMSI is sluggish in general it's expected
Doesn't even start
No Force Feedback
Better FPS than on Windows. Hard to get it running in the beginning but some verifying of files, restarting and tinkering with start options solved the issues. Had to launch with WINED3D=1 to get smooth performance.
Don't press esc to access menu without pausing the game with P-button first.

Runs, aside from slight usability degradations, flawlessly
Whenever Windows dialogs appear, the main menu hides behind the fullscreen window reserved for 3D drawing; all OMSI-menus are selectable via [Alt]+[Tab]
(KDE).
In-Game menu (arrow in the lower right hand corner) is only accessible by pressing [Alt]
, sometimes only shows at the second try after re-focussing the 3D fullscreen window.
Pressing [ESC]
will not cause a 3D freeze-frame but rather cycling through the last 10 drawn frames.
Some crashes and freezes, at a similar occurrence as Windows. Overall plays perfectly with Proton Experimental
Very rarely, some poles would be invisible, particularly in the Berlin BRT map
Some focus issues, solved with alt tab and clicking on the main screen.
Es ist etwas Handarbeit nötig, um das Spiel wie gewohnt spielen zu können. // It takes some manual work to play the game as normal.
Wasserreflextionen sind etwas verbuggt. // Reflextions of the water are a bit buggy

The game must be started with Proton Experimental at the moment. In the start options I added "PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE = 1% command%".
I also applied the 4GB patch to have a full 4GB of RAM available. Unfortunately, the .exe cannot be operated using the GUI under Linux. The terminal can remedy this with the command "wine *4gb_patch.exe * omsi.exe". The patch must be located in the main folder.
The game runs very smoothly, even more smoothly than under Windows. Sometimes there are problems with the 2D overlay, the ALT key may have to be pressed several times. But everything is running smoothly.

Cannot start game properly
Got a popup error called " Fatal error occured! OMSI will be closed. Error while creating Direct3D-Device - Direct9 Error: D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE (-2005530518) " This is when using Proton 5.13-6. When trying with any other version of proton available through Steam the game just closes soon after it stats (no error visible). No DLC's nor mods enabled.
Nach dem Starten kommt die Fehlermeldung "Error while creating Direct3D-Device - Direct9 - Error: D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE (-2005530518)"

When you bring up the bottom right menu it kinda goes weird and you have to click back again
Honestly I think personally it runs even better than the Windows version.
It's DLC Bus Company Simulator (BCS) is unable to work with it, Using Proton-5.21-GE-1 I could get both the game and BCS running, but BCS is unable to launch the game. BCS side also had several bugs, like: some texts didn't appear.

Some lagging and glitching because of Wine trying to convert values
The game is not stable in Windows and just as stable in Linux (no degradation from playing in Windows).
Works exceptionally well with proton 4.11-11

everything works great

It runs, but the bottom right menu is hidden after clicking the game window. This is a major issue because you can't perform any actions that require that menu which essentially breaks the game.

lets gnome and xserver crash when you press start..

There are some issues with displaying the menus. The main menu disappears once I click on the black background making it necessary for me to kill the process. Opening the ingame menu (that can be opened with the Alt key by default) is tricky. I have to press the shortcut for returning to Desktop and the Alt key repeatedly to get access to the ingame menu. The performance is (even) worse than on Windows. Some objects (mostly poles for some reason) were not rendered. Some traffic signs were floating in the air. Loading the last situation does not work. Real weather does not work either. The steering wheel worked immediately but without force feedback. Apart from those minor problems, the game runs fine. I have not experienced a single crash yet. (I also recommend to install the 4 GB patch which can be done using the CFF explorer in wine.)

Some issues with the focus, can be mostly fixed by alt+tab.

Game can be started. Map can be chosen and loaded. Ingame overlay is not visible. You can choose a bus via detours, but it will not load

The Game starts but when you open a menu-window like the Settings-window and close that window, it crashes the whole Desktop, so it not playable really

Works perfectly

Performance similarly bad as in Windows. The game pauses when the main window loses focus, but the Alt menu as well as the spawn bus / teleport / select timetable menus are an own window by themselves. Just click into the main window or hit Alt+Tab to regain control. Steering wheel axes and buttons work, but force feedback does not with Logitech G29

Good performance, no legs

The game itself runs okay, though with a bit less perfomance compared to Windows. There are problems with keeping the screen focused, the game loses focus on its screens quite often. It can be hard to regain focus on the game again.
