First startup needs to be done in Desktop Mode, due to the Launcher's Settings Window not being shown otherwise. Afterwards settings can be adjusted in game.

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
It works perfectly

Selected version "linux-version-wine" from betas in Steam.
With "advanced lighting" enabled the map is black.
When the game loses focus in fullscreen mode, it can't be restored. Windowed fullscreen works fine.
Had to change to "beta" channel "linux-version-wine" and select the latest sectable version in compatibility options (8.0-2 at the time of this writting). Don't know if that's a coincidence or simply automatic detection not working properly in this case.
After initial setup the game runs smoothly.

Map was black until I disabled "advanced lighting".
In Fullscreen mode the game gets hidden when clicking on a secondary monitor with no way of getting it back into focus. Windowed Fullscreen works fine.
Game did not launch with default proton version. Other than that it seems to work fine.
There is one popup that shows where you have Play Settings and Quit as options and when the first two are pressed the game just freezes
I can see the processes run, but no game window appears no matter if I select full-screen or windowed in the settings dialog.
Using PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% ran the game perfectly, far, far better than the plain vanilla Wine wrapper did. Combat screens look the way they're supposed to.
Proton-5.-9-GE-8-ST

It runs with stock Proton 5.0.7 but has severe graphical issues. Use Proton GE. Advances lighting setting worked for me without issues.
Proton-5.6-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton-5.6-GE-2
Audio disappears in cut scenes after 1 second
After Alt-Tab game window can no longer be found
Regular proton 5.0-5 has in game graphics corruption but switching to Proton-5.6-GE-2 solved this.
Proton-5.6-GE2
Trying to Alt+Tab would leave the game running somewhere in the background with no way to switch back
Enabling advanced lighting causes everything but the UI to go black. The intro video does play with Proton-5.6-GE-2 but the audio cuts out in the first few seconds. This was a new clean prefix generated by clicking play in steam.

I had to create a 32bit prefix and install dotnet35 using winetricks. Winetricks also installed dotnet20 and dotnet30sp1 and set wine to xp. Game launches fine but I needed to rename/delete the games directory containing DotNet to prevent the game trying to install it, which takes about 15min to complete.
I have to set the graphics to the lowest setting before launching the campaign then increase it to ultra once the campaign is loaded, otherwise the in game graphics get corrupted.
The land texture under the water is black/missing only once did it appear when I ran the game but have not been able to make it happen again.
Intro cutscene does not play but that is probably cause it is a wmv file.
Finally I needed to rename/delete mscorsvw.exe from inside the prefix windows folder as it prevented the game from quitting and steam would think it was still running. Game runs fine without it.
Gameplay seemed fine and responsive with no crashes so far.

does not lauch
Fails to start

Can't be run through SteamPlay - developers have set up a separate linux download that is still a windows build.

Missing a runme.sh from the developers trying and failing to make a wine-wrap Linux port at some point in the past.
