Surprisingly for me everything worked out of the box after donwloading the game. Didn't touch any settings.
Have to say though that in the past I was playing a bit around with the ubisoft launcher in desktop mode for Trackmania, don't know if this came in handy here.
The game is fantastic, runs fine and works well with no hiccups or anything, just that one problem with finding the key.
Feels like a frametime issue, I didn't install MangoHUD to check, but it's feels exactly like it.
Ubisoft Connect works fine, but requests a key. Normally, you have to right click on the game, go to manage and then view CD key. This is not possible on Linux, and you need to find your key on a Windows machine. Oops. Not a Proton issue, just a Steam issue.
Latest uplay update broke the game
I used to be able to play this on linux but I guess a recent update to uplay has broken it. The game loads and plays an intro song then crashes.
It runs great, but the only problem i can see in the future is that the UPlay launcher will stop and this game will no longer work because you need to access your account to play... really dumb decision on a game like this.
Annoying pop-up to log-in to Ubisoft... made game unplayable. Got through inital boot process on my Windows PC and then was able to launch on Steam Deck and log-in to UbiConnect and play the game.
Initial boot set-up un-passable w/o Windows PC
Wasn't able to get past inital set-up w/o a secondary PC
Game fully non-working on deck.
All fixed by all others on this page for this game were useless in getting this game working, totally booked. Spent over an hour trying to get it going to no avail.
Uplay crashes with an error on start. The actual game does not start at all.
Once you have resolved the launcher issues and crashing, the game works and is perfectly smooth at 60fps
Launcher changes
--set TDP to 6W --set max GPU freq to 800Mhz
Game runs perfectly smooth at 60fps with these settings and should extend battery life drastically.
--Initial launch fails with an error after signing in to Uplay --Closing and launching again works, but it prompts for password in Uplay every time --Game then crashes due to Uplay overlay seemingly at random
--Due to 3rd party launcher workaround cloud saves do not work via Uplay --initial save data can be loaded prior to workaround (if you have a uplay save) --Steam does not provide cloud saves either
--game crashes constantly if the Uplay overlay is not disabled
Uplay prompts for password on every launch and the overlay crashez the game constantly
To fix... --launch the game in desktop mode, once launched, minimise the game and open Uplay --in Uplay, open settings and disable in-game overlay --also disable ANY of the other notification settings --now set Uplay to "offline" mode --ignore the warnings and once set, close the game and Uplay --launch in gaming mode and it should now work perfectly
MP and online scores obviously do not function due to fixes applied
had trouble getting the game activated with uplay on my steam deck, but launching it on my pc first sorted that out, runs like a dream now
This game performances matches that of the 'Steam Deck verified" Trials Fusion game.
I had to initially login to Ubisoft's launcher. It never prompted again.
Trials Evolution runs great. Ubisoft launcher login was the only an issue initially. 60fps, no graphical glitches.
Install and run the game. Uplay pops up, updates itself, once the update is finished it crashes. Quit the game from steam, then play again.
Game didn't work the first few times I launched it but after Uplay auto updated it ran just like its supposed to.
Controller was detected MOST of the time but sometimes I would have to restart the game to get it working. Using a DS4.
Game is locked at 60fps but rarely it felt like less. No idea if its because of proton or if the game is just un-optimized.
Proton 6.16-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Minor missing textures during loading
Controller (DualShock 3) not detected on 6.3-6 or Proton Experimental. Works in Glorious Eggroll
Sometimes freezes when loading levels
Testet both with and without Ubisoft ingame overlay. Made no difference for me, still freezes sometimes.
Game runs perfectly out of the box now with proton 5.13-2
When you open for the first time it's going to install and open uplay which I assumed would mean that I wouldn't be able to play the game but after signing in the game did not open. I went to steam closed down the game. Then after re-launched and everything went fine. Nothing out of the ordinary at all. I would give it platinum from my short experience so far.
Game started, but after hitting enter at menu the game froze and would not respond, disabling uplay overlay did not work.
Game Runs Flawlessly, and Controller Controls work perfectly with instant response!
Remember to disable U-Play's overlay, it will ask you to enable the overlay each time you start the game. As long as you do not turn on the UPlay overlay, this game will be a great experience!
Uplay overlay needs to be disabled, otherwise it works perfectly fine.
Game runs perfectly after disabling Uplay overlay : right clic on uplay icon (on systray) -> Settings -> uncheck "enable in-game overlay for supported games"
First time the game didn't start up. Crashes after some minutes with Uplay overlay enabled. Works perfectly without the overlay (platinum).
Make sure that after Uplay updates, you disable Uplay Overlay (in the Uplay settings menu). Works perfectly after that. Did not test multiplayer, but according to the subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/TrialsGames/comments/9hkiol/what_happened_to_trials_evolution_multiplayer/), it's probably not functional.
Disabling Uplay overlay (inside Uplay itself) is enough to get the game running perfectly. Wasn't able to test online multiplayer (no matches found, don't know if it would be the same on Windows).
UPlay launches and updates itself. After UPlay finishes updating, it closes to launch Trials. Trials never generates a window but is apparently running. Unplayable at this point.
Uplay can't connect to Ubisoft services
