Select 'use controller'. Decrease the UI size to see the whole thing.

Unable to set up controls. Developer controls and first two community layouts are borked too.
Unable to play this game. The Controls on Steam Deck are totally borked. Even the Developer layout did not work.

The official control scheme from the publisher has some issues with button prompts not showing in the Steam Deck OLED's native resolution. Mouse cursor also doesn't show. Changing to Gamepad with Joystick Trackpad and enabling "non Steam Controller" in the in-game options, fixed most of it.
I then edited the controller layout even further. Turned Left Trigger into a layer swap, to add more abilities to the face buttons while LT is held down (kind of like the Final Fantasy 14 controller layout).
The game is perfectly playable if you tinker with the control layout.
After a few hours playing, the game starts having stutters here and there. Fixed by rebooting the game.
It's a great game that plays well, once you adjust your controller layout.

lore text and item descrptions are quite small but readable.
After setting up the community layout and chosing "Enable non-steam gamepad" in the game settings, it runs and looks great! All graphic settings are maxed out, Steam Deck is limited to 45 Hz. After several hours of playing, the game can start to stutter. Just restart it and everything is fine again. Can really recommend it on the Steam Deck!

You can't see the mouse cursor and the icons for abilities, this deeply affects your gameplay on steam deck.
enable the trackpad as mouse
Can't see the curson nor the icons for each ability
Don't buy if your main device is steam deck, or you're planning to buy on steam deck. I tried many solutions online, but it only further bricked the UI.

40Hz
Raised UI Scale
The game should support steam input but it doesn't, and switching to XInput doesn't allow you to navigate any menu in a clear way. This is so bad i've uninstalled the game because it's clear that it doesn't support controller properly

Initially you will not see controller prompts and your mouse cursor will be invisible.
- In the game settings, enable "Enable non-steam gamepad"
- Select any controller layout other than the "Official" one
- You might have to move the UI scale slider around a bit and/or restart the game
You should now see the controller bottom prompts on the ability bar, as well as your mouse cursor.
All good after doing some minor fixes for controllers, as described in the report.

Mouse cursor disappeared in a recent update. Crate Entertainment refuses to support the hardware, so this game is officially borked.

Crashed a couple of times at the start of the game and I don't know why. But after a reinstall, it was ok.
Highlights: I play on my Steam Deck, handheld, and to be honest, I didn’t like the game.
I’ve only played Grim Dawn for an hour or so but I didn’t get a good feeling from the game. I usually love ARPGs but something about this was a bit off. I found there was a distinct lack of tutorial so much so that I really didn’t know how to control my character. For example, I could swing a sword but couldn’t for the life of me work out how to heal, block, or cast a spell. Perhaps I just couldn’t yet due to game progression but it felt like I should be able to.
I also found that the controls were a bit off too. It just wasn’t fluid IMO and navigating th UI was a bit of a pain too. Within a screen, there was a fair bit of pressing bumpers or controller arrows to move from one section of the UI to another, which felt clunky. The UI definitely wasn’t developed with a controller in mind. But it did work…it must lacked ease of use.
Also, for me, as soon as I started a game, I got messages saying that the default screen resolution wasn’t suitable for controller. I tried all of the resolutions and nothing helped - the menu UI was cut off. However after about 30 minutes, I found a UI Scaling option, which resolved the issue by putting it down a couple of notches. So again, it was fine but just awkward and unnecessary.
I know the game has been well received by most but it was just not as good as I expected. Personally it’s a good punt we]hen on sale but I wouldn’t pay full price.
Sorry but for me, it’s a no-go. :(

Very smooth game play. Didn't experience any negative issues.

Graphisme faible, résolution d'écran 1280x800, anticrenelage activé
Luminosité baissé à 50%, vibrations désactiver
Problèmes de connexion avec l'autre joueur

A bit small, esp on item details.

I enjoy this more on Steam Deck than on my desktop machine.

Reduced Threads from 8 to 4 via PowerTools (decky-loader) to reduce slowdowns over time.
display capped at 40hz
Controller Layout is slightly off the edges, but still readable. You get a warning at the start of the game because the 800p resolution is not officially supportet. Doesn't impact user experience really though.
Every other hour the game will have serious slowdowns and stutters. Following a Reddit recommendation I reduced the Threads to 4 via PowerTools which helped delay the effect, but it happens no matter the graphics settings (40hz work great with almost everything maxed out). Game is still beautiful and playable, just requires restarting every few hours.

Cutscenes are a bit stuttery, but easy to ignore
mid to high settings and capped at stable 40hz (except cutscenes)

When using Steam's default version of Proton, joining or hosting a multiplayer game from the menu caused the game to crash instantly. The "Internet" multiplayer option was also locked and unavailable.
Forcing Proton 8.0-2 fixed both problems.
Multiplayer works great as long as you change the version of Proton to 8.0-2. Otherwise the game crashes instantly.

Game works realy well on deck. Witch slight graphical adjustments you can get ~3 hours gameplay.
installed d3dcompiler_43.dll
40fps/40Hz/ TDP 12W
Default text menu scale bit off, but it can be adjusted via i game menu.

adjust UI scale
Resolution Error, just tick "Enable Gamepad" under Keybindings in Settings
If you get black screen trying to launch x64 version, add game root install directory to "Working directory" field under "Game Options"
ie: /run/media/mmcblk0p1/games/Grim Dawn NOT /run/media/mmcblk0p1/games/Grim Dawn/x64

Framerate capped at 45 fps
Item tooltips are very small and dont entirely fit in the screen
Choose the x64 launch option - it seemed to give better performance. Grim Dawn actually seems to perform better on my Steam Deck than on my expensive gaming PC !
A couple of reports mention having to tinker to get the 64 bit version running. I just ran it straight from steam. Zero issues.
Bit of fiddling with the control settings required, otherwise seemed smooth during a short test-play.
Official layout did not work for assigning abilities to buttons, Had to switch to Gamepad with joystick trackpad. Also had to set "non-steam gamepad" in ingame settings.
Game gives an error on loading a character about too small resolution to open keybind interface or some such. After the aforementioned changes, you can assign abilities ingame by pressing select to invoke inventory, then selecting the skills window, and pressing Y.

PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
Item comparision tooltips do not fit entirely to the screen. You can change the UI scaling but then the texts are too small.
32-bit version works OOTB with parameter. To make the 64-bit version work, I had to install GrimInternals and use GrimInternals64.exe to launch the game. Otherwise, there is a black screen when loading.
Cloud Sync works with GOG. Keep in mind that the save folder is changed and is now located in the Steam install path although it's not installed via Steam (home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata//pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Grim Dawn/save)
It's a great Diablo-esque RPG. Well worth playing, the controller support is pretty good from what little I've played it on the steam deck
Works OOTB great.
Choose x64 launcher for best performance.
By default some of the text is cut off the top and bottom in your inventory.
If you go into Options -> Video -> UI Scale and drop it down 1 notch everything will fit on screen.
There are plenty of keybindings to remember, it's worth hitting the Steam button and checking out the controller settings to get familiar with them.
One of my favorite games of all time. I'm still going to get many more hours into it on the go and I'm sure many others will too.
Swapped skillbar keybinds to utilize the back grip buttons and it feels good.
As many know, further into this game the item descriptions can get pretty ridiculous (just a ton of info), making it difficult to read or even see what's going on around your character as your auto cursor displays a comparison of the item on the ground to what you're currently equipped with.
When utilizing the stash, the interface shifts to the right and the stash is unusable. It seems like a resolution issue but because the stash interface doesn't even fully display, it leads me to believe there's something not quite right graphically.
It's only noticeable in menus but the UI gets cut off at the very edges of the top and bottom of the screen.
My gripes are minor - I hope that Crate sees what we're talking about and resolves some of them but if they don't, the game is still very playable and thoroughly enjoyable.
Outstanding Hack 'n Slash that works and looks great on Steam Deck. The official controller layout is very well though-out.
Locking FPS to 50 allows to save some battery life while ensuring a smooth gameplay. I have GPU clock to set between 1000-1200 MHz depending on the location - since when the action gets hectic, the frames are bound to drop. All in-game visual settings are at MEDIUM.
You can get more battery life with 40 FPS lock and LOW settings, but I like my eyecandy and battery on the aforementioned settings is more than enough for quick sessions.
Since the UI on the item descriptions isn't scrollable, it will be cut off by the Deck's small screen if too many modifications are added to an item. Other than that, all in-game text is perfectly readable (and scrollable, like lore notes).
DXVK_ASYNC=1
Changed a back grip button to Shift + Right Click for easy button/selling/movement between storage and inventory. Changed right trackpack to mouse and left click.
Set Deck refresh rate and limiter to 50hz/fps.
GE Proton7 22
The launch option with GE Proton smoothed out most stutters.
The Linux script at https://forums.crateentertainment.com/t/tool-core-switcher-force-gd-to-use-all-cores-equally/100875 after adding it as a non-Steam game and launching it after being loaded in game for 10-15 seconds took care of my CPU cores capping out and smoothed out almost all of the rest. Still an occasional stutter when traveling quickly across open maps.
Settings were at Medium-High - no Ansiotropic filtering or VSync. Ran in Fullscreen with Triple Buffering. Smooth 50fps otherwise and approximately 3 hours of battery life.
You may need to scale up your UI a bit for it to function correctly with the controller UI, and you'll get a warning that it won't work when launching but it works after using any controller input.
On the steam deck works out of the box 40fps locked (slight dips with many enemies). When you login on a character, the game tells you the interface is not compatible with the screen resolution. It's not a problem: just go into video settings and scale interface down a little. Text is still readable, and you can see every part of different windows. Works wonderfully and it's a delight playing it on the deck.
40hz, TDP:8 with locked 1200mhz GPU clock (can probably go lower). Ingame graphics settings medium-high.
Runs fine, error message comes up and you lose all your abilities, making this essnetailly BORKED
Game starts and runs fine, but you'll lose all control of your abilities "Your current screen resolution does not support the controller user interface" comes up and you're left with your basic attack. I've attempted to launch it in all it's provided versions and in experimental proton to no avail. Unless you're okay with just basic attack, or if you know a differnt work around / fix to this problem, it's essentially BORKED.
