Problems syncing cloud saves, otherwise no problems at all.
problems with syncing cloud saves

Works without issue
I dont know what to say more

Works perfectly out of the box
Performance seems to be slightly better than on Windows.
Contrary to what others seem to be saying, mods do work on the native version. I play with over 70 mods installed from the steam workshop and I only ever played on the native version.

gamemoderun prime-run %command%
Slight stutters here and there compared to Windows, but 100% easy to enjoy playing.
I believe ive tried both Proton Experimental and GE, and both worked fine. However due to the game not being very multithreaded you might need a beefy CPU to run it flawlessly at 60 without stutters. I have a few stutters here and there, but it can be easily ignored, and does not effect how the game feels, and its only when the game loads new things like planets.
Native does work well, and I don't believe I have the stutters through native Starbound, but mods do not work at all for native.

When using GE-Proton9-11 the Fullscreen option in the graphics settings doesn't work as intended, but the borderless fullscreen option does work instead, so it's only really a minor nitpick.
The native version of the game had screentearing, switching to ProtonGE fixed this.

Works perfectly with Proton GE.

Experienced slight screentearing on the native version of the game. Switching to ProtonGE fixed this.
If you experience any graphical problems, try switching to ProtonGE. Besides that, the native version also "works", but I did experience some graphical issues with it.

Not unsurprising, but I couldn't play with someone on a Windows machine while using the native Linux version. It kept joining then immediately kicking us for whatever reason. Switched to Proton Experimental and everything runs flawlessly.

Cannot start a dedicated server from game files, just throws an error.
Hamachi all the way

Native port works great!
No notable issues with multiplayer
Haven't tested mods, but game seems to work great!
If you have wine installed, you can run the Starbound Server from the terminal with wine ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Starbound/win64/starbound_server.exe
.

May be problems on NVIDIA cards, use integrated graphics

I had to use the Linux Runtime to run it smooth on OpenSUSE. After that, all perfect.
As expected.
On Kubuntu i didn't need to enable the Linux Runtime. Not sure why it needed it on my OpenSUSE.

Textures start to bug out quite frequently. They disappear for milliseconds. Don't know any fix yet but I'll update as soon as I find one
I will try to fix the issue with the glitching textures but as of now it quickly get's on your nerves. Everything else seems to work as of now.
No issues here

This happens both when playing in Native and when using Proton. Had to use Windowed mode
I'm using an MX Master 3S and when playing in native the hotbar always scrolls from right to left, and any scrollable list bugs out and constantly jumps to the top of the list. When playing with Proton Experimental however everything works as it should.
Use Proton Experimental and everything will work perfectly. When playing with Proton the game does not follow the system window scaling. For that use a Workshop MOD called 3x UI Scaling which will work amazingly. Follow the mod's instructions in the description to make the game enable the mod at launch.

unplayable with controller. official preset is terrible

Flawless
Works perfectly on desktop with mouse and keyboard.

Had to reconfigure screen resolution settings. It also glitched a bit, but it was possible to change.
The game is clearly made for mouse and keyboard. I didn't think gamepad was enjoyable.
The gamepad controls are subpar and text is hard to read.

I enjoyed terraria despite never beating it and decided to give Starbound a try. That was years ago and I don't remember much from it lol. Recently though I played quite a few hours (maybe like 5 or 6) and was a really enjoyable experience once I got the hang of controls. I don't remember changing layout, I usually don't need to.

during loading takes like a few minutes to load sometimes
use experimental, ig native does not run well with mods i just wasnt able to launch it
Initially had to reconfigure the graphics settings so it would fill the screen.
Even the mods work, including FrackinUniverse.
If you use a Dock for Steam Deck and playing in Gaming-Mode, the resolution will stay at the Steam Decks default resolution. The only work-around is playing in Desktop-Mode.
Native, this game plays well. If you turn on "any" backward compatibility such as Proton, the game will still work, but the loading takes nearly 10-20x longer than Linux Native.
Using Proton you will be able to launch server options, whereas Native does not give you this option.
Nearly all mods work, except StarExtensions when using Native. Since Native you are not using .dll files. But if using the compatibility, StarExtensions does work correctly. BUT, remember the loading of the game takes FOREVER, so for me, it's not worth it. So I don't use it.
Also, using compatibility or not, all game files are within the /starbound/* folder anyway; saves, etc. So using compatibility/wine (wine prefix), doesn't really matter.
Not sure why using compatibility causes the game to load 'extremely' long vs Native. May something to do with the .dll files, or something else. And I've tried both Linux PC and Steam Deck (which are both Arch-Linux, maybe other distros this doesn't happen?), with m.2 and regular SSDs, same issue.
The game's designed for mouse and keyboard and regular displays. It's uncomfortable to play on Steam Deck.
Starbound runs on Linux natively & perfectly. The only thing that i don't like is that in-game controls works for me only on eng layout. So I have to change layout every time I need to switch to chat.
Default resolution has text that's incredible difficult to read
The default resolution of the game made everything low quality and hard to see. Can be resolved by setting the resolution to 1280x800

its playable, but feels like a chore on steam deck. Would be better with external keyboard and mouse.
small text
Very clunky
Made the Right Trackpad Click a Mouse, changed nothing else
Changing Graphics got the game stuck at first, one restart after everything worked fine and it used my settings
Worked perfect out of box - mods from Steam Workshop work as well!
Note that there are some performance bugs that also plague the Windows version.
performs really nice on latest proton
mesa_glthread=true mangohud %command%
Occassional menu & parallax flickering. Not very noticeable, and passes quickly.
Sometimes started as a window; I needed to re-enable fullscreen. Resolution option doesn't seem to work either.
Infrequent CTD on launch, usually resolves after one or two re-launches.
Starbound uses a single-threaded OpenGL renderer, so I'm trying out mesa_glthread. YMMV
'"vsync" : false' in storage/starbound.config
Works flawlessly, even with native
While still enjoyable, just got for the faster native build!
Everything seems to load slower than native

It just works
Windows version runs worse than native, just use native
The linux version runs better than the Windows version lol
This is a maybe. I didn't play for long on Proton and didn't enjoy it. Just go for the Native version
I tried using Proton to get rid of all the very minor micro stutter in the Native Version, but it was worse with Proton. The micro stutter in Native is the same as in Windows. Maybe 144hz spoiled me too much, but it was really noticeable with Proton
In conclusion: yes, it works completely fine. I had Frackin Universe installed, so this might caused some lag. Just go for the Native Version, it runs completely fine.
