Opinions on the port cast aside, runs great
Didn't notice anything out of the ordinary that wasn't already present as a problem on Sonic Colors: Ultimate. All thing's considered, it runs great out of the box. Should you play this version of Sonic Colors though......that's up to you.

Without switching to ProtonGE the game would crash at the first level. After switching to ProtonGE it worked perfectly fine though.

Game is perfect, in every single aspect, and no tinkering required at all, like native...
Works perfectly fine
after switching to proton 7 & tolerating the first few mins of slight stutters, it works flawlessly
The game is unable to load it's save on newer proton versions, resulting in a black screen after the into cutscenes. using any proton version in the 7 range fixes this.
always slight stuttering in the first few mins of play
Launching straight from Steam, would a typical gamer enjoy playing this game on Linux even without tinkering? Yes - if you don't close the game

Black Screen after intro cutscene on GE-Proton >= 8
The Epic Game Store edition of "Sonic Colors: Ultimate" plays just fine - however, at time of writing you have to use GE-Proton7 to get past the intro cutscene. With GE-Proton8-13 and GE-Proton8-14, the game gets stuck at a black screen after the intro cutscene.

Opening PulseAudio Volume Control and leaving it running in the background when you launch the game resolves the crackling, but I'm unsure as to why.
When Denuvo is checking the game license the game will lag for a short ammount of time then resume normally. This is a problem on Windows as well.
Audio crackling in pulses, opening PulseAudio Volume Control and leaving it running in the background before launching the game keeps this from happening. I have no idea why.

This game is known as a bad remaster, so I waited that the price goes down enough to consider trying it.
With Proton 8, the game was stuck on a black screen while loading the save. Once the save(s) removed the game was launching.
Downgrading to Proton 7 workaround the issue.
I might end up using the latest Proton GE 7 to get the most I can since Proton 8 is not possible.
It opens in a black fullscreen window, after waiting a few seconds you get a special ingame cursor.
I tried multiple proton versions, experimental and GE versions. I also tried launch options: PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1, PROTON_NO_D3D11=1, PROTON_NO_D3D10=1 they didn't change it or made it worse.
besides the games built in stutter at start and ends of levels it ran decently well and smooth
50 FPS lock
This is just a base problem even with windows version of the game but start and end of levels stutter, but playing the level 99% of the time runs smooth
Game runs just fine without any modifications.
Only minor FPS hitches, although it sounds like windows players have the same complaint. Probably not a Linux issue.
Works well out of the box. Maintains a stable 60fps. No futher tinkering necessary, unless you want to install mods.
It works perfectly like it says in SteamOS
Black screen with no sound, just a mouse cursor
Tried various Proton versions and launch options.
