Not launchin with anything, neither wine, nor proton. Ignores .cfg file
as listed by others in no DX11 etc.
Sadly does not launch, no matter what I try. Am a bit bummed by that. Gold version (So basegame and Hammers of Fate) runs well, so I don't understand why this isn't.

Все настроил под себя
TDP: 4W Fps: 40

DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
Go to settings in Heroic, on the Wine
tab run winecfg
, switch to Graphics
tab, check Emulate a virtual desktop
and set the the resolution to 1920x1080
or lower.
Runs perfectly on max settings with default proton set frame limit 40 set frame rate to 40 to have an expected battery life of 5 hours
Frame limit 40 Refresh Rate 40
Projected battery life 5 hours
game crashed at launch, after reading top comments forced proton experimental and copied launch option, runs butter smooth

If you decide to play at 1080p and your mouse is restricted, just quickly alt+tab, it should fix the issue.
By choosing higher resolution than 1024x768 somehow restricts the mouse movement everywhere like there would be an invisible window behind which limits the mouse movement in the game.
I am happy about Steam supporting Linux platform and games natively.

DXVK_STATE_CACHE=0 PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 PROTON_NO_D3D10=1 %command%
protontricks ... winecfg
-> set virtual desktop (1280x800 or other)
In Documents/My Games/... config file turn off fullscreen
At start on virtual desktop visible game window may not appear:
- double click on small dark rectangle (often in upper left corner of virtual desktop)
In game settings enable hardware cursor (mouse).
Played GOG (Gold) version with Proton 7.0-1 and tinkering with game window.
DXVK_STATE_CACHE=0 PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Make sure to turn off "stay active" when launching (You can turn it on if you're already in game) or the game will freeze and crash on launch. You can either do that in-game, or, edit the user_a2.cfg located in steam/steamapps/compatdata/15370/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/Heroes of Might and Magic V: Tribes of the East/{profile name}/user_a2.cfg and set "setvar app_always_active = 0"
Mouse cursor tends to be a bit off (~5px)
Scroll-wheel doesn't always work to zoom the map (use pgdn/pgup)
overall, works pretty good.

It is working great with Proton 7.0. I did have to maximize the game for it to run at the start.
The game was minimized in my taskbar, so I had to maximize it.
It is working so much better! I had many issues with this game before and it would not even get to the main menu.

Black screen
Upon opening the game it's just black screen. I tried running it both with no options, and with DXVK_STATE_CACHE=0
set that other reports mention --- that makes no difference.

Launch it with DXVK_STATE_CACHE=0 environment variable or else it won't start. There is also a way to avoid performance degradation every alt-tab. Once you created a profile in-game, find the profile config file at
steamapps/compatdata/15370/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East/Profiles/[user_name]/user_a2.cfg
then change the line
setvar app_always_active = 0
to
setvar app_always_active = 1
Minor bug: mouse-scroll does not work correctly, use PgUp/PgDn instead

Game not started
PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Game comes up with a black screen and music.
disable dxvk state caching with DXVK_STATE_CACHE=0
mouse scroll doesn't register, zoom in/out need to use PgUp/PgDn
Performance seems to degrade every alt+tab, after 3 or 4 alt+tab, FPS drops below 60 and have to restart to maintain the original FPS.
Freeze once, haven't encountered again.
Game doesn't launch if there is a dxvk state cache.
Increasing graphic resolution through in-game menu doesn't work, will crash, edit the config file manually.
I am using MMH5.5 mod and the game runs smoothly. However, It doesn't run with the latest proton and have to use 5.0-10
Sometimes the games just crashed while trying to load a save data.
Sometimes the games just won't load (you can hear the Ubisoft startup sound but no display whatsoever) when I tried to made it fullscreen or certain resolution (the most stable way for me to play is on a windowed 1280x720)
This is my launch option 'PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%'
zoom out on global map doesn't work
Crashes after the logo video without D9VK
Heavy lag. Enabling d9vk with winetricks fixes lag
WINEPREFIX=/home/pippo/hdd1/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/15380/pfx winetricks

Played some custom games on randomly generated maps, everything works fine on very high graphics and full-screen mode. No issues when tabbing either.

Most issues are gone once you enable d9vk. Occasional stutter here and there but nothing drastic since this is mostly strategy game.

Main menu on max anti-aliasing halved my fps. FPS would often go down to 1 inside the game world. Anything can trigger it, from spell particle to getting to battle mode. Alt-tabbing usually fix it for me and the fps go back to normal. Sometimes crash when getting back into the game after alt-tabbing.

Here are my launch parameters: "PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%".
Game launched successfully, but the cursor stuck within an invisible borders and I could not select any menu item. The solution was to change cursor type to hw. Config file located here: /SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/15370/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East/Profiles//user_a2.cfg Need to change setvar ui_use_hwcursor from 0 to 1.
Zoom in/out works perfectly with PgUp and PgDn.
First, when the map was loaded I experienced perfomance issues, but changing graphics settings from Very High to Normal and applying the problem's gone away. After applying these changes you can safely set Very High graphics settings back.

First of all the game needs to run in wine virtual desktop because there are windowing issues otherwise, secondly I could only get the sound to work after setting shm-size-bytes in the /etc/pulse/daemon.conf and /etc/pulse/client.conf to 4194304 bytes (16 megs and more seems to cause issues). This tweak is needed only for HOMM5 on my system, audio works fine for everything else. And lastly zoom out using the mouse wheel is broken (you can zoom in, but not zoom out), to get around this you can use PgUp and PgDn keys on the keyboard to zoom in and out. Hope this helps :)

Using "PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%" the FPS in the menus gets fixed.
The FPS in game however is still terrible. I've tried all of the ProtonDB options, and none are able to fix that. Looking for other fixes. Will update.

Starts without problems, all ok. running on my system with min settings

By default the game won't start, however after modifying proton profile and forcing it to run in virtual desktop it runs fine, but there is no sound.

All OK, instead of zooming, but you can zoom out\in like this -> esc - alt+tab - return into game - esc and zoom out. Repeat as many times as you want.

I could not zoom out. Performance was extremely poor on high settings until I enabled BOTH anisotropic filtering and antialiasing at maximum. Then it began to run smoothly.
The biggest problem is still that I could not completely zoom out on the main map.

Window problems on loading, 7 FPS in the game on max settings (menu is fine)
