Base game works fine
Framerate dips in weird areas for seemingly no reason
The game now comes with the Neon Splash mini sequel, which got stuck in an infinite loading screen. I had already bought it separately, so I just launched it that way. Base game worked fine.
Oh, and the tower DLC seems to work well enough too, haven't finished that one yet though.
Loaded my save and ran around in the HUB for a minute, no perceived issues
As mentioned by earlier reports
Adding the
gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1 gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1
To games' boot config substantially improves performance (demon turf, demon turf neon and tower all seem to have own boot configs)
Able to get locked 70 fps (overclocked screen) on LCD deck Gorgeous.

Loads forever
trying to start a new game leads to infinite loading
Requires an older version of Proton and the addition of a few lines in three configuration files; once this is done, it works like a charm
The game starts and plays correctly with Proton version 7.0-6. However, it may suffer from frequent and heavy stuttering. My solution was to ensure that the following three files:
SteamDirectory/Demon Turf/Demon Turf_Data/boot.config
SteamDirectory/Demon Turf/Demon Turf_Data/Demon Turf/Demon Turf_Data/boot.config
SteamDirectory/Demon Turf/Demon Turf_Data/Demon Turf Tower/Demon Turf TOWER_Data/boot.config
include these lines with the following values:
gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1
gc-max-time-slice=1
As of today (2023/05/01), if using newer versions of Proton or Proton Experimental, it freezes before the main menu.
just be sure to turn on the "Light Optimizer" setting as it drastically reduces the excessive CPU usage
Works perfectly fine
No issues found
Added two lines to the game's boot.config
file:
gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1
After adding these lines, I get a stable 60 FPS with max graphics settings.
To find the boot.config
file:
- Right click on
Demon Turf
in steam library ->Manage
->Browse local files
- Open
Demon_Turf_Data
folder
Since I followed CryoByte33's performance boost tutorial to turn on TRIM and increase RAM usage on the Steam Deck on YouTube, the performance for this game has been stellar, locked 60fps pretty much across the board. Before this configuration the game would run inconsistently even on the lower settings. I highly recommend following that tutorial unless you play Red Dead Redemption 2, as it's the only game known to run worse after doing this.
Increasing UI size in the game's settings makes things easier to read
gamemoderun %command%
the perfomance worst than windows
playable without stability issues
Game won't reach 60fps even with everything turned down to low/off
As much as I want to play this on my deck I just can't. I was hoping that it being deck verified meant it would run well on the deck but with all the graphics settings turned down or off the game struggles to hit even 40fps in some areas depending on camera placement (at 720p). Maybe going down in resolution and using FSR will fix this issue and maybe even help hit 60fps but as is, I don't think the game is suitable for deck verification and hopefully in future it will become more optimised for the handheld experience.
gamemoderun mangohud DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
Good out-of-the-box experience.
Opens on the far left monitor, fixable with KDE Plasma's window rules.
Without the Media Foundation fix (or GloriousEggroll's Proton) you miss out on one intro video and tutorial videos in the menu.

Run with Proton 6.3
Game hitched a little when loading and it took longer than I'd expect on a M2 SSD.
