Black screen after the initial splash graphics
Unsure which process worked but I tried hazuki01's comment.
- get media foundation script: https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install#readme
- save it within Cris Talles pfx folder
- run following on the Konsole WINEPREFIX="$HOME/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/Cris-Tales/pfx" ./mf-install.sh and
- Open Cris Tales setting via Heroic Launcher (by right clicking the game)
- Drag and drop the mf-install.sh onto 'RUN EXE ON PREFIX'
The movie is very beautiful
Ganrplay works fin, but cut scenes don't play.
Smooth experience, no lag, crisp graphics, seamless controller layout integration. Good experience so far on the Steam Deck for me!
FMVs won't play by default. Swapping to GE Proton in Heroic and selecting "auto install/update DXVK on prefix" box appears to fix.
The game is still playable and fun, but if you've never seen the cutscenes, you'll miss some details that are slightly important
Will not play FMVs. All cutscenes show up as pink screen with lines
Game seems to work fine based on the early game after adding WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 %command% to launch options
WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 %command%
Game version from EGS. Launched via Heroic Game Launcher. Works like a charm , but all fFMV's are broken. To run them correctly, you need to install media foundation script from here: https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install#readme
And run mf-installation.sh script installation according to the instruction. For me it was
WINEPREFIX="$HOME/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/Cris-Tales/pfx" PROTON="$HOME/.var/app/com.heroicgameslauncher.hgl/config/heroic/tools/proton/Proton-GE-Proton7-16" ./mf-install.sh -proton
FMV's not displaying correctlu, but after installing media foundation, it works as intended
need extra steps, to solve problems with FMV's
6.12-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
I used 6.12-GE-1 GloriousEggroll. By the moment of this report, 6.13-GE-1 was released, but it doesn't do it. It starts, but never goes to the opening credits. Also tried with 6.14-GE-1, and appear to have the same problem.
This is the third report I wrote about this game.
The first was when I tried to make it run, but couldn't.
The second was after successfully doing it with Glorious Eggroll.
This third one is to report after completing the whole game in linux though proton.
Unlike what other reports say, I was able to see Full Motion Videos. The experience is basically flawless in terms of compatibility.
There were only problems at starting and closing the game:
At start, there is a chance the game start lagging, with stutters in the intro cinematic, but the problem is solved after the main menu.
At closing the game, it never manages to do it, you have to force close it.
But other than that, I never had a problem in game.
6.12-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
I used proton-ge-custom, version 6.12-GE-1
The only problem the game has is trying to close it. It doesn't work. You have to force close it.
I just was able to reach the initial "made in unity" title, after that the game closed. Was tested with proton 5.0
If you don't mind the lack of cutscenes, everything else seems to work fine.
Cutscenes don't play out
Running Proton 6.3-5 (I wasn't able to make it pass the opening logos in any other version)
Able to boot game, but can't make it pass Unity logo
While the demo work without issues in my Pop Os 21.04 OS, the full version of the game seems to have boot issues. After clicking play, the starting black screen shows up, but after the Unity Logo, the game crashes.
Proton-6.5-GE-2
Does not work with standard Proton. The game hangs during the introduction cutscene just after the splash screen. My guess is it requires Windows Media Foundation.
Some short screens (probably loading screens) were replaced by some weird image with colored stripes. It only happened twice and lasted for few seconds
Installed but after logo was just black screen
splash screens start with logo, crashes after second logo, just sits on black screen.
tried media foundation fix for giggles with effect.
Pre-release demo showed a few logos, then seemed to get stuck
Specifically, it got stuck at a plain black screen with no audio. One time I tried waiting over 10 minutes. I also tried various versions of Proton, including 5.0-9 and 4.2-9.
This for the demo. Ran perfectly start to finish.
Tested using demo version. No flaws. Actually runs more smoothly than on windows, but locks to 60 fps.
Tested with the pre-release demo. Seems to be a unity3d game.
