WARNING: Latest DLC crashes the game at startup, you will need to disable the dlc (Nyakuza) to play the game. Keep up to date about this issue here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/173 | Aside from the latest dlc crashing the game, once you disable it , it has a couple of issues like poor performance (though, if you use protontricks/winetricks to install galliumnine, this is fixed. Only for AMD and Intel users though.) and graphical glitches (again, fixed with galliumnine).
4.2-5 fixed the dlc crashing issue. And by installing gallium-nine through protontricks/winetricks you can get buttery smooth performance and it'll get rid of the graphical glitches (AMD and Intel gpu's only, gallium-nine doesn't work on nvidia)
You need to go to the game's installed directory and rename launcher.exe to something else (like launcher.exe.bak) and then take the game main exe (Should be BorderlandsGOTY.exe) and rename it to Launcher.exe. After that, the game should run perfectly. I had smooth 60fps and no graphical or performance hiccups aside from the beginning, bu that was just shader caching.
A game that should work, but stopped by DRM.
This game has every right to run perfectly, but unfortunately the Denuvo DRM causes the game to crash frequently, and causes the game to get stuck on loading screens. Basically, in order to play the game, you have to "find" a copy without the drm. Ridiculous.
Game runs perfectly after using protontricks/winetricks to install dotnet40. Smooth 60fps.
You need to install d3dx9, mfc42 and msctf with proton tricks in order to play. I've also found the game runs the best on Proton 3.7 rather than the latest version.
Should work out of the box, to get better performance if you are on AMD or Intel based GPUs (sorry nvidia users), install galliumnine with winetricks or protontricks. The game will start with the resolution glitched a little, just change the resolution to something else, and back again and it'll fix itself (or play in windowed mode if you want)
Has a terrain glitch that can range from annoying, to downright making the game unplayable. This is an issue in Wine itself, so until that is resolved the game's playability is dependent on how bad the terrain glitch gets.
I can confirm that the DirectX 9 mode works flawlessly throughout the entire game, and recently the 64-bit DirectX 11 version has started working, however I haven't played through the entire game with DirectX 11 so I can't say how well it works.
As the other reports say, you need to use protontricks or winetricks, and install d3dcompiler_43 and d3dx9 to get the game running. After that its smooth as butter.
Never gets into the game
Even with the python script, one of 2 things happen: A. It fails to load the world, and kicks you back to the main menu B. Entire system freezes, requiring a hard reboot. Dunno if its an issue with opensuse, but all I know is that it doesn't work for me.
