Can't launch games.
By default, the game won't launch. Renaming ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/AoE2DE/resources/_common/movies
allowed the game to launch, but launching a simple single-player game causes a crash to desktop. Other fixes have no effect, including replacing ucrtbase.dll and enabling or disabling d9vk.
Crashes when starting
The game can't be killed by pressing the "Stop" button in Steam. Stopping the game requires killing the individual game processes or restarting my computer.
By default, GRIS launches, but clicking the "new game" button produces a white screen that never changes. This was resolved by following the instructions on ValveSoftware/Proton#838. More exactly, I quit steam, executed the following commands, and then started steam and GRIS:
sudo pacman -S wine-mono
git clone https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install.git
cd mf-install
WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/683320/pfx ./install-mf.sh
The game mostly ran fine, but at about the 80 minute mark, stuttering started occurring. Unsure of the reason.

Note that I ran these commands on Arch. Instructions for other distros will differ.
The audio would slightly crackle during cutscenes.
There was stuttering at about the 80 minute mark, for maybe 20 minutes. The reason is unclear.
Amazing emulation.
Audio occasionally fell out of sync during combat or cutscenes.
I'm streaming the game from my desktop to my laptop.
Doesn't launch
Steam briefly shows "running," but game fails to visibly start.
