Works great, one slight issue
Using mouse has slight cursor drift; might be a design choice
If an update for the game comes in as your playing, the game will crash and update. Otherwise runs perfectly.
Updated Review: Crashes every hour of gameplay
Oddly crashes every hour of gameplay, almost to the second
For some reason, the game will crash every hour of gameplay. I don't know if a game event is supposed to happen then, but regardless it crashes. Although it's annoying, everything else works perfectly. Luckily there are a lot of save spots so you won't be backtracked a ton when it does happen.
SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 %command%
Only had to set the SDL_VIDEODRIVER to x11 in launch settings when using a wayland session as it would crash before spawning a window. Otherwise perfect.
Works great on experimental. Found that other versions cause a crash at the first cutscene.
Cutscenes replaced with color bars
Works essentially perfectly; however will note that previously had a bug that would permanently pull focus when exiting the game, from every window on every workspace. However was completely fixed after Patch 1! Good job SuperGiant!
Campaign works as expected
You can play through the campaigns perfectly.
My biggest issue is that you cannot get achievements in any way. Even if you play with EAC enabled, or/and using GE proton, it will not give you achievements.
Of course, since there's EAC, you cannot play multiplayer at the moment.
Extreme Artifacting regardless of Video Quality
Missing cut-scenes as any other unity game. However extreme artifacts in terrain and certain assets make this game not enjoyable at all. Unsure if it has to do with shadows or the meshes themselves, but it really doesn't like proton.
gamemoderun %command%
Another great game that works out of the box with proton!
Although dualshock controller wouldn't work without Steam Overlay on, everything else worked effortlessly!
It's Risk of Rain 2
At higher difficulties, some particles won't appear at times.
Rare lag; otherwise perfect
When looking for secret items, the game would sometimes lag from 144 down to around 45 for 2 or so seconds like it was loading something. Same would occur when entering new areas for the first time. Otherwise perfect.
Single-player works great out of the box. Multiplayer requires Northstar Client at the moment
Northstar Client
The game works amazing out of the box for me, but the constant DDOS attacks killed multiplayer for everyone. Here, I'll post how I got to install the Northstar Client (and get it running) as that seems to be the only reasonable way to be able to be able to play a multiplayer game at the moment.
Here's my process on how I got Northstar to work with proton:
- To start, grab the latest release of Northstar, downloading the zip or tar file here
- Go to your steam library -> right-click Titanfall 2 -> Properties -> Select Browse Local Files
- Extract the contents of the zip/tar file into Titanfall's local files. You can also extract the zip/tar in your downloads, and copy and paste the contents as well.
- Rename 'Titanfall2.exe' to something like 'Titanfall2base.exe', it just has to be different than the original
- Rename 'NorthstarLauncher.exe' to 'Titanfall2.exe'
- Now in %STEAMLIBRARY%/steamapps/compatdata, delete the directory/folder called 1237970
- Now you can go to your steam library, and press 'play' on Titanfall 2!
- After first time setup finishes YOU MUST BE PATIENT! It will take longer than usual to launch, but as long as you wait, Titanfall 2 + Northstar should run eventually.
- Once the game starts, you will get a welcome screen where you have to say 'Yes' to in order for the Client to work. After that, you can find Launch Northstar under multiplayer!
I hope this is useful for those struggling to get Northstar working with proton! As figuring this out took a lot longer for me than I'd like to admit.
P.S.: If in the future you want to update Northstar to the most recent version, you essentially do the same thing again, skipping step 6.
