Limit to 30 fps
Freezes during in-game rendered cutscenes or videos/cinematics
No longer requires WMF workaround, but must force Proton Experimental as of 2023/01/25. The current default Proton version (Proton Next) chosen by Steam for this game doesn't work as the game stalls at a white screen. Default to Experimental until changes are pushed to Next or other stable Proton release branch. If these changes disappear, Proton GE-47 also works (newer GE versions may or may not retain fixes for Samurai Maiden or for any game for that matter).
Game performance and stability is otherwise unchanged compared to past tests with WMF DLL. Performance cannot maintain at 40 FPS, so 40 hz is no-go. FPS is also rather low for this type of game on Deck. Some places in the Gallery to test for freezes:
- Prologue (burning building, cutscene after initial dialogue)
- Opening music video
Steam's bundled Proton7 results with missing character portraits and glitched leg textures with some characters post-transformation (mostly to do with socks or stockings). GE 7-30 and 7-31 have missing character portraits. At time of writing, latest GE version that works without issue is 29.
Proton GE-29 is no longer necessary to resolve texture issues and missing character portraits. As of right now, Proton Next (7.0-6) and the default chosen Proton 7.0-5 work perfectly with this game. Thus, user shouldn't need to tinker at all.
In the past, the below were places where issues could occur:
- Texture glitching with character leggings/socks (can check with Asuka's default burst mode outfit)
- Missing character portrait in character selection screen
- Missing character portrait in mission results, page 2
Shadows are quite blocky, but the game nonetheless runs its best as an old PS Vita port. When Next gets pushed to the default 7.0 channel, nothing should change as far as this game is concerned. Should the relevant fixes disappear for Shinovi Versus, Proton GE-47 appears to be the latest GE version that works. Mileage obviously may vary with newer GE versions as both GE and its base from Valve changes.

Right trackpad as mouse to interact with launcher; back grip buttons bound to [1,2,3,4] for easy activation of Warframe abilities
- Break Narmer security camera controls aren't bound to any Steam Input Action Set. This required the "non-Steam Game" SIAPI workaround.
- Accepting squad invites while bottom-left text window is open causes OSK to appear. Simultanous action is caused by both actions accepting input from [x] button.
Warframe locks the player to SIAPI mode on Steam Deck. SIAPI mode means that in-game actions not bound to a Steam Input Action Set cannot be processed (ex. generic gamepad x-input) while Keyboard + Mouse is not 100% functional with game menus. Players have two options to play this game, assuming Proton-8.0 (current default):
- Warframe as is, with no custom Steam launch options, using DE's default SIAPI layout.
- Warframe as non-Steam Game with custom launch options noted above.
SIAPI mode allows Steam Input Keyboard popup to appear properly. Non-SIAPI allows KB+M and non-SIAPI input. Warframe cannot dynamically switch between SIAPI and non-SIAPI, but can dynamically switch between gamepad and KB+M in non-SIAPI mode. Pick your poison. Go here for instructions on non-SIAPI mode.
