The game is running fine, no issues outof the box so far.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp.dll=n,b" %command%
The games runs perfectly out of the box with no issues. Yes the game is already defaulted to maximum graphics settings and no - there is no way to change the graphics settings in-game at all.
The game looks unbearably blurry from wayy too much bloom so I looked into mods to fix this. The mod is called JKSFix and you can find it on GitHub and simply follow the instructions on installing it (requires above parameters).
The mod is already a must-have simply from being able to turn off settings like bloom and chromatic aberration, in addition to uncensoring the game + other tools aiding in taking screenshots!
Kudos to eevbb for creating such a much needed mod!
It didn't seem to work in the past, but now it works by default.
Limit to 30 fps
Freezes during in-game rendered cutscenes or videos/cinematics
No longer requires WMF workaround, but must force Proton Experimental as of 2023/01/25. The current default Proton version (Proton Next) chosen by Steam for this game doesn't work as the game stalls at a white screen. Default to Experimental until changes are pushed to Next or other stable Proton release branch. If these changes disappear, Proton GE-47 also works (newer GE versions may or may not retain fixes for Samurai Maiden or for any game for that matter).
Game performance and stability is otherwise unchanged compared to past tests with WMF DLL. Performance cannot maintain at 40 FPS, so 40 hz is no-go. FPS is also rather low for this type of game on Deck. Some places in the Gallery to test for freezes:
- Prologue (burning building, cutscene after initial dialogue)
- Opening music video
Game doesn't work out of the box, requires (Media Foundation) in order to work, even then videos still don't play.
WINEPREFIX="/home/[insert your username here]/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/compatdata/1952250/pfx" PROTON="/home/[insert your username here]/.steam/debian-installation/compatibilitytools.d/GE-Proton7-42" ./mf-install.sh -proton
Videos don't play at all and all you get is a black screen (example: the intro video after the first level). Just press ESC and then select skip to advance.
All credit for this fix goes to DaryKiri, see this post on the Steam forums for further information about the fix: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1952250/discussions/0/3718314778555731478/#c3718314778571219708
Install media foundation with:
WINEPREFIX="/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1952250/pfx" PROTON="/home/deck/.steam/steam/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton 7.0" ./mf-install.sh -proton
Replace the value of PROTON by the path of the proton version by the game
Videos are not working, tried with lavfilters and ffdshow
To get past the white screen you have to install Media Foundation

The game opens up, but gets stuck on white screen after the initial logos. Unplayable at the moment.
