Great game, good old times! Only thing: Alt-Tabbing closes game. Other than that: just perfect!
Nice graphics, very polished game. Really can recommend it!
Sometimes the games is slightly slower for a second and continues normal after catching up again. No big deal, though. Sometimes I get a message warning me of low power, when there is no reason for. Both could be a bug… didn't try it with Windows.
I use Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF (after it worked in the demo), didn't try standard proton version. Had not one single crash/bug/issue with it.
Does not launch (forced Win10 + Denuvo?). Tested Proton 5.*, 4.* and a few GE versions.
Game works out of the box. I played single- and multiplayer. Not tested: Campaign and ranked games.
Stuttering and freezes caused by networking stuff
Launch option: %command% --waitforpreload --nologo --nodx9ex -gc 2. Make sure to set Networking Mode (in UI tab of options) to "Predictive". This solved the stuttering for me.
Works perfect with the Vulkan Renderer (select in Graphics tab in the login menu).
If you have major graphical artifacts, try disabling VSync in the graphics tab. This did the trick for me.
- Runs with the Proton version you can find here: https://github.com/stevenlafl/Proton/releases/tag/proton-5.0-7-alyx-2
- You might need some patience on the initial start… processing Vulkan shaders takes LOTS of time (somewhat about 5-7 h for me)
- Make sure you selected Vulkan renderer in options menu instead of DX9
- No launch parameters needed for me
- Unsure if still relevant: for connection issues experiment with the two network modes in options menu
- Unsure if still relevant: I you encouter graphical artifacts with the Vulkan renderer try disabling V-Sync
Works fine in singleplayer. Was not able to play the campaign in coop, could not connect to/create a lobby.
Font looks weird
After the steps already mentioned (esynch + edit config file) it is perfectly playable. No issues in single player at all. Multiplayer not tested. Sometimes frozen black screen after changing settings and quitting game, just kill it then.
Worked after updating winetricks (sudo wget http://winetricks.org/winetricks -O /usr/bin/winetricks) with after executing protontricks 644930 -q --force vcrun2017 dotnet471 gdiplus. Game saves, works well and even the font looks normal. (Maybe the already suggested dotnet472 works as well with newest winetricks… didnt want to wait 10 min again. The cruciall point on Ubuntu is the missing winetricks update for apt.)
Game starts, shows intro videos (w/ sound). After getting in the main menu, nothing is rendered. Result: Black screen and music. Still no success after disabling esync or several wineprefixes suggested here.
Runs out of the Box. Ingame sound settings do not work, use e.g. pulseaudio to make it more quite.
