The game needs to be run in desktop mode and windowed. It can be switched to windowed by adding the following lines to the file HOME/.steam/steam/steamapp/common/Agarest Generations of War/Agarest.ini:

Game does not work in gaming mode, only in desktop. Game only works in windowed mode and might crash when changing windows in fullscreen.
Game is shown into two windows: Game and movie - Sometimes information is shown in both windows (e.g. main menu background in movie window, main menu text/buttons in Game window). Input is only accepted in game window!

Game seems to lag/hang every few seconds
Force any proton version (tried with 7.0-2) to disable native version. Start game and wait for it being stuck on "running installation script". Switch to desktop mode and delete InstallScript.vdf in Home/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Setpterra Core. Afterwards it can be started normally.
