Finding the good version of Glorious Eggroll:
*Proton-6.5-GE-2 launches perfectly but the "Watch Monitor" problem blocks the game.
*Proton-6.0-GE-1 doesn't launch.
*Proton 6.3-2 (not GE) launches but I'm blocked on a "TV no screen signal" just after the launch.
*Proton-6.1-GE-2 finally works for me and I'm able to go through the game. Runs around 100-120 FPS with no drops.
DirectX 11 vs DirectX 12:
In both Proton-6.5-GE-2 and Proton-6.1-GE-2's cases, DirectX 12 works way better than DirectX 11.
*After launch, on ClapTrap's animation I see a "Optimizing Shaders" blue bar with DirectX12, not with DirectX 11.
*With DirectX 11, every new scene takes about 20 sec to properly launch, it's instantaneous with DirectX 12.
*Finally, choosing DirectX 12 or 11 doesn't affect the "Watch monitor" problem, I'm able to go through the missions.
Other:
Game doesn't seem to want to close on its own. Steam shows Borderlands 3 still running after "Quit to desktop". I have to manually "Stop" the game.
Using Proton-6.5-GE-2, runs very smoothly. Messes up the Alt+tab focus with multiple applications opened, and putting graphic settings on very high doesn't seem to change a lot (I used nvtop to check, same numbers). Very good experience.
Played through the entire game without too much issues (sometimes, the game wouldn't start, had to relaunch it). In-game was flawless.
Freezes on start of the level
On second playthrough, on the first campaign as soon as I move the mouse the game freezes. On new game and new game+. I tried:
- Proton experimental and GE-8-4
- watching the entire cutscene before the first chapter
- just moving the character and not the mouse (it works until I move the mouse)
- rebooting my computer and doing it all over again
I doesn't work. I noticed that Steam is not processing shaders anymore, don't know why. I also noticed a new nvidia update a few hours ago. So maybe it's the game not handling new saves, maybe it's the new nvidia patch, I don't know, but I'm not able to play anymore.
Works with 4 players using Steam Link
Using a Linux machine host, connecting 2 Windows and 1 Linux client with Steam Link. It takes ~2 to 5 minutes for all the gamepads to be recognized during which using the Steam Overlay or Alt+tab would crash the game. But just waiting makes it work, and after the initial connection the game runs perfectly.
Using Proton-6.5-GE-2. With my previous GTX1080Ti the game was not running (crashes during opening cinematic, very low FPS even on lowest settings). Now it runs perfectly on max settings. The controls feel a little sloppy but maybe it's the game.
Works out of the box
Game started but I was unable to launch the campaign (game froze charging campaign/sandbox/chaos) because my nvidia drivers were not up to date. With the latest patch (470) it works flawlessly. The game still tells me my drivers are not up to date but now I'm able to play. I'm only 20 minutes in but it seems to work and I'll put a new report if I experience any bug.
very low fps
Always crashes when starting a new campaign and ''new user experience'' is on (meaning tutorials I suppose).
The game seems in a poor state even for windows users, but for me it's just not working at all. Even on low settings, with a RTX 3070 and a Ryzen 7, it's just barely running. Maybe someone here will find a trick to make the game playable.
Still doesn't work for Nvidia GPU
Same as other users. After the Marvel logo, music starts and everything crashes.
launch options [gamemoderun ENABLE_VKBASALT=1 MANGOHUD=1 %command%]
Thanks to XipherZero's report, I can play the game now. Seems to work just fine.
Kinda works. But boy, this game is crap.
Audio didn't work until entering the settings.
Some fps drops.
Crashes sometimes when opening a new map.
Game still on early access. Probably dead. Not an enjoyable experience at all but it may be as bad on windows.
Works perfectly out of the box. And what a game !
Online multiplayer is great too. Playing with another proton user, runs very smoothly.
Works perfectly - Remote play together
Very smooth experience. Remote play together works perfectly using a Steam account for the client (didn't try Steam link).
Freezes past the "start run" launch with 7.0-4, experimental or GE. Using proton 6.3-8, the game seems to work as intended.
