This fixes the only use quarter of screen issue, and maximises game, even on an external monitor.
Settings > Display > Graphics quality stays on ultra-low (no shadows), Trying to increase them exits game and loads website trying to search for error of "cannot create shadow depth buffers", of which there is no page nor solution.
Use PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to fix.
Runs smoothly, fun multiplayer, great modern graphics and large, easy UI. Proton 4.11-7
Steam via Apt worked, with Proton 8.0-3. Steam via Snap did not work and was stuck on EAC/Easy Anticheat Initializing screen indefinitely.
I believe the Snap vs Apt thing is the packaged or used GLIBC version. EAC needs 2.3+, but 2.36 breaks it? not sure but maybe thats what is packaged/used by Snap's Steam. My system GLIBC is 2.37 and I guess its used by Steam via Aptand must be working at this version for EAC and it did work first go.

All but intro videos play - screen just black did not proceed until I hit 'Esc'. Then the game proceeded to the war room/deck. Proton 4.11-7
Super smooth, simple game, but addictive & free.
Stuttering, low FPS after some playing.
In the first 30 mins to 1.5hrs, the game plays fine at up to 60 FPS.Then, 30 mins to 1.5hrs in to the gaming session it dropped half framerate low FPS, lots of stuttering. Only reboot would fix but would happen again. Noticed GPU stops being used as much, 80deg C down to normal 60deg C at the point when FPS goes bad. Havent found fix yet. PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 did not make a difference. Game settings didnt make a difference.
My review below was Steam defaults. This must have used Proton 7.0-3 by default (I dont know how to tell, was at 1st July 2022). However I found I had to Force Steam Compatibility tool and then select 7.0-3 (presumably same one, the current latest as at review) and then the game worked perfectly for hours on end without issue.
Add to Launch Options > WINEDLLOVERRIDES="mfplay.dll=d" %command%
May crash on Loading screen before and after missions on other Proton versions. Use Proton 6.3-2, forcing if necessary, with Launch Option above.
Worked great, fully compatible with Steam Controller too.
First mission, typical gameplay, game speed, framerate, weapons, explosion effects, all looks great. Windowed only this time.
