I used the following command: `PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 gamemoderun %command%`, otherwise it would crash in the main menu.
The game would crash in the main menu without the option.
Native version wouldn't work, it stayed in a loop whilst loading.
Once the "WINED3D" option was added, the game ran fine. It seems to hold steady at 60FPS.
Installed to give it a try in Proton and it worked perfectly.
I've played for around 45 minutes and I didn't notice any issue at all (GFX, sound or control).
Works OOTB without any problems
With these specs for my computer, running it at 1080p High is a no go. I couldn't get more than 20fps.
Lowering down the resolution to 720p and the game runs fine on High. It won't run at 60FPS, but it always runs over 30fps, so no stuttering nor freezes.
When running at 720p, I'm still getting the video out at 1080p as it won't change the screen resolution on my TV (LG 42" FHD).
Works perfectly out of the box.
Played at 1080p, with all details at maximum and, once VSync was disabled, it was running at 130 FPS.
No graphics errors that I was able to see.
No sound glitches that I was able to notice.
No issues with the controls, keyboard + mouse.
Works like charm out of the box
Added "gamemoderun" to the launch parameters, but with this game is not really needed.
Works perfectly out of the box
Tested at 1920x1080, details at maximum. FPS stable at 60 FPS with VSYNC enabled.
Works Perfectly OOTB
The only change done in the game parameters was adding gamemoderun %command%
, but the game works perfectly even without that option.
Works perfectly out of the box. Installed and running without any hitches
I've run the game at 1080p, using the Extreme setting and disabled VSync. It runs pretty well, there are some times where the FPS drops from 60, but it is not noticeable.
You can see the results here.
Ran the game using GameMode and MangoHud.
Installed and running without any problem.
Installed the game and went through the tutorial. No issues that I was able to notice:
- Graphics: 1920x1080 - MSAA 8x, no glitches
- Sound: No glitches that I was able to notice.
- Control: Played with a keyboard and a mouse, it worked perfectly.
Works out of the box without any tinkering.
I got the impression that the "Left Shift" key does not respond when hold. Need further testing.
Tested Halo Reach at 1920x1080, all details to the maximum and got over 100 FPS once VSync and the frame limiter were disabled (around 200FPS on average):
- No graphics errors that I was able to see.
- Sound: No glitches that I was able to notice.
- Played with a keyboard and mouse. All good in general, but I've got the impression that the "Left Shift" key doesn't work as intended (running/armor powers).
Ran the game with MangoHud and GameMode.
You will need to remap the default "Left Shift" key used to activate armour powers as it doesn't work. I've switched it to the "Left Alt" key and it works as expected.
All good in general, but the "Left Shift" key doesn't work as intended (running/armour powers).
Ran the game with MangoHud and GameMode.
Runs pretty well given my system specs (30 fps ingame).
Menu and loading screens work at 60 fps.
Tested using gamemode and MangoHUD to get some realtime stats.
Tested with the graphics settings on Ultra. Some frame drops here and there, but it holds pretty well over 55 fps.
Loading times are almost the same as running the game on W10, a couple seconds more here and there. Starting a game from scratch from the main menu to the "ready" status takes around 50 seconds.
No graphics or sound glitches that I was able to notice.
Overall, pretty surprised with the performance for a non native game.
Note: Tested using Feral's GameMode.
New hardware, new review. Running at 1080p@60 FPS, settings on Ultra. One or two frames drop here and there, nothing noticeable.
Not tested with Windows since upgrading the hardware, but from my last tests, I can guess that it will work as if it were a native version.
No graphics, sound or control glitches that I was able to notice (played with KB+mouse).
Stats from the last MangoHUD log:
- Duration: 1767s
- 97%: 60 FPS
- AVG: 60 FPS
- 1%: 59.4 FPS
- 0.1%: 54.5 FPS
Note: Tested using Proton 5.0.9 and Feral's GameMode.
Random Crashes
gamemoderun %command%
Forced the installation of the Windows version to give it a go and see how it performs in comparison with the native version.
Even though the game installs fine and seems to run, it will crash randomly, sometimes even before showing the main menu, which renders it unusable in this state.
The native version worked perfectly in the same system.
6.19-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
At the time I started playing the game, I had to use Proton GE to get the intro videos working (Respawn logo, for example).
Played the whole game in 1080p, settings on Epic. I had some frame drops from time to time, but I think that I would get them in W10 as well.
No sound issues that I was able to notice.
The game is designed to be played with a gamepad and so I did, using a wired XBOX 360 gamepad. It worked perfectly.
6.15-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Audio won't work properly using the default version of Proton. There were cuts in he voices during cutscenes (intro, for example), or they weren't working at all.
Besides those problems with audio, the game works perfectly.
Using Proton 6.15-GE-2 seems to solve the problem with the voices.
The game runs fine using 1080p, but the frame rate seems to be locked at 30FPS.
Forced the installation of the Windows version and the installation went ok. The game though, will not work at all.
Working perfectly out of the box
In full screen mode, switching resolutions may cause the game to crash. Nothing that can't be solved by manually editing the configuration file (AppOptions.txt
) in the profile in order to setup the preferred resolution.
A quick run to check that the game could be executed properly, since my last test, some months ago, was unsuccessful. Once again, I've only tested the "DirectX 12" version.
I've just ran the "Gathering Storm Benchmark" test, using 1920x1080 as resolution and the graphics settings set on Ultra. It has a hard time getting over 60FPS, and sometimes it drops down to the 30s, but it runs much better than the native version, which never went over 40 FPS.
Tested with GameMode and MangoHud enabled.
It worked perfectly out of the box, no issues whatsoever.
It works with my current version of Proton (Default / Experimental).
No graphic or sound glitches that I was able to notice.
The game options only let you pick one of two resolutions: 1024x768 or 800x600.
The game was nevertheless displayed using my native screen resolution (LG 42" TV @ 1920x1080). The image was not stretched to fill the screen, I had two black bars on both sides.
I've setup the launche parameteres as gamemoderun mangohud %command%
, but MangoHUD does not seem to work.
gamemoderun %command%
I just used "gamemoderun" as I do with most of the games I use, whether they are Linux native or run under Proton.
