Crashes a lot
I played main game, side missions and some AR challanges on Windows for 100 hours and wanted to give it a try on Linux to play New Game Plus. This game doesn't run very good on Windows too but I experienced more problems with Proton. FPS drops are bigger (?) and more often compared to Windows. As someone other stated after 2 hours it runs significantly better.
I beat the NG+ in 10 hours and game crashed for 3 times during gameplay. Considering this game has a lot of side missions, those crashes may annoy you after a point. I didn't lose my progress thanks to constant automatic saves.
I would've recommended it playing with Proton if crashes weren't this often.
Works out of the box

Crashed twice than it run just fine after that.
Heavy frame drops with Direct3D 11 mode. Runs almost perfect with Direct3D 12.
Game runs without any problem
Game never crashed during gameplay but I sometimes got crash reports about Wine when I quit the game.

It becomes very laggy after playing like an hour
There is already no point of buying this game in 2024 since there is a better version of it on the Steam Store but if you want to play and complete this game make sure you restart the game after an unsuccessful run because it becomes very laggy if you play for more than an hour. If you want to get all the achievements, do not waste too much time in the Womb/Utero levels. Skip to the Cathedral and Chest levels asap.

Loading saves takes a while even on an SSD but it is not a big deal.
Game was running quite nice till chapter 2. It crashed once in chapter 2. I don't know what happened but it crashed for 5 times in chapter 3. No crashes happened after chapter 3. Autosaves and quick saves (F5) will be your friends.
This game has no built-in Vsync so I had screen tearing and GPU coil wine. Limit your FPS with the launch option above.
