5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
In full screen mode the resolution doesn't scale well. The problem probably mostly fixes itself if you have a 1080p or lower native resolution screen, but it's unplayable on 4K. It's okay in window mode.
The only Proton version that made the game run for me was 5.8-GE-2-MF with anything else it just crashed. If your screen is set to 1080p resolution you should be able to play the game with little difficulty. In full screen mode however it scales very badly. I used two starting parameters:
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1
Without this the game starts with black screen and won't work. However it will only show the upper-left corner of the game like this:

Tho other parameter was:
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1
All this did was to show tho lower-left corner instead, but alowed me to set the in-game resolution:

This problem persists until you reach your (native) screen resolution. For a test I set my screen in the OS to 1080p then set the resolution in-game to the same and it displayed with no issue. Other then this window mode is an option, but then you are limited to 720p. The WINE_FULLSCREEN_INTEGER_SCALING parameter doesn't help, it just adds a black frame around the problem:

Blurry image, maybe faulty draw distance
Sensitive to framerate. The lower it is, the more prone to crashes the game becomes.
My experience is, that getting up to around 60fps the crashes are MOSTLY fixed. On my rig in 4K ballanced preset it rund at around 35fps average. In 2K better quality preset, motion blur disabled it rarely dips below 60fps.
It also has a problem, that your car is sharp, but everything around you that is more than a couple of car length away is blurry. Probably the draw distance is failing.
The other Proton version I tried is 5.0-7, with which my average framerate was around 5fps. It can go as high as the mid teens in less demanding places. Regardless of the graphics settings.
Crashes after character creation
Below Proton-4.11-13 the game starts, but can't log in.
From Proton-4.11-13 to 5.0-7 it logs in, no audio, crashes after character creation.
With Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF logs in, the audio is fixed, crashes after character creation.
The game is practically unplayable. The farthest I could go with it is almost to the door in the starting room.
It's generally easy to run, though more personalized systems may have issues.
I tried this on my desktop PC with the specs on the right and I didn't encounter any major issues with any Proton version. Runs out of the box with perfect performance. The only problem still is that setting the lighting effect to very high breaks the game.
On the other hand, my notebook, which is an Elitebook 8470p (i5-3320M; 4GB RAM; HD7570M 1GB; Sandisk Z400s SSD), also with Mint 19.3 Cinnamon, but with the latest stable XanMod kernel was much more picky. The only Proton versions that was able to run the game were the 4.x and older. And even with those there were some some heavy stutter probably some loading issues because it only occurred with the binocular and when I travelled through the map fast, like in a vehicle. When I took my time in an area whether in or out of combat, the game ran smoothly. Maybe I'll try the default kernel at a later date.
Steady framerate, no noticeable stutter with decent graphics settings.
This is one of the few games that wouldn't even start for me with the 5.8-GE-2-MF proton version, but with the default 5.0-9 version it starts and runs flawlessly. The framerate with a mix of medium and high (high preset, motion blur off, max texture draw distance medium grass and object draw distance, medium particle light and shadow effects) is in the mid 40s with little to no drops into the high 30s in 1440p.
Starts but crashes every time right after character creation
A written in the summary. Also the game has problems displaying the menu in full screen. I'd be more than happy if it was running fine in window mode, but I can't get past character creation. Once I'm done and cilck the play button, the game crashes.
Some mouse detection problem. As the game functions in mouse-look mode, you have to hold the right click to activate interactable object. When the game doesn't detect it right (after starting or ending cut scenes/dialogue) the sound is crackling until you right click. More common in the inventory menu.
Randomly, after loading a new area the game sometimes forgot to load the world textures. https://ibb.co/4PmLNLR The game needs to be closed and started again to fix it. Doesn't corrupt saves.
The game menu freaks out in full screen mode, the main menu can't be navigated.
After entering dialogue the game most often won't detect the left click before you do one right click.
Almost exclusively after loading screens roughly once every 30-60 minutes.
See above with the display issue.
Just couldn't get it to work.
Tried several Proton versions, vanilla and GE. With some, it wouldn't launch, with others in full screen mode It shows the main menu for a second then drops back to the desktop. The Steam client still shows the game to be running. In Window mode it stays in the menu but when I start a game, it only shows a plain whit window, doesn't seem to load.
Works out of the box with Proton 5.13-6 with only some minor inconveniences.
I don't know if it's a Linux specific issue, but in 4K resolution the game doesn't display correctly. Everything except the HUD is blurry. Looks like this: https://ibb.co/vv9ZQLZ In lower resolutions there are no issues.
The game always starts in windows mode and you manually have to set it to full screen regardless of the settings in the game's graphics options.
Sometimes the character just refuses to shoot for seconds. I don't know if it's a general bug or a Linux specific. It's rare, happened around half a dozen times over my 7.5hrs playthrough.
