Without using the GE version this game cannot be played. Even when using that version the game is ignoring inputs every 120th frame.
mangohud %command%
Input gets lost every two seconds because of lost frames.
Severe frame pacing problems. Every two seconds there is stutter, input gets lost in that time frame.
When not using the GE version, the intro already leads to crashes. Otherwise pretty stable with GE ingame.
With mangohud it crashes when the intro isn't skipped. Using it the frame pacing issues are made visible very clearly.
The recent update from 6.4.22(Build-ID 870086) breaks EasyAntiCheat, settings.json not found
The game cannot be started with experimental or 7.0 currently, closes with settings.json not found error message. Redownloading the EasyAntiCheat directory doesn't fix it.
Game runs good on high settings, installed to an ntfs drive errors with the EAC settings.json occur
Turns out that if the game as well as proton are installed to an ext4 drive instead of an ntfs drive there are no problems starting the game.
The game seems to run stable now, cutscenes work without tinkering.
With the default settings the fullscreen didn't use all the available space. I changed the resolution below 1080p and started the game, closed the application and changed the resolution back to 1080p. Now all the space is used in fullscreen.
It was a bit unclear that only proton 5.0-10 can be used, sourcing the vidreszr.dll was pretty cumbersome.
Using the wine version provided by proton 5.0-10 was crucial to get this working. I first started Grandia via steam with proton 5.0-10 which is important to later get dotnet452 installed successfully with protontricks according to the instructions of pcm720 . I first tried to get vidreszr.dll from a windows 10 installation iso I had laying around, but I had to switch to the window 7 64 bit dll version of vidreszr.dll to get it working with mf-install, switching the windows version with winecfg didn't help. If one tries an approach that is different even in the slightest (like using proton-ge 6.21) the game boots to a blackscreen with an additional error message at times.
Without renaming the files according to the error displayed in the popup that appears some time after booting this game can't be run.
The files that are downloaded from steam seem to be named incorrectly, otherwise they cannot be found upon launch. First ApexFramework_x64.dll needs to be renamed to APEXFramework_x64.dll to get the game running. After the intro APEX_Destructible_x64.dll needs to be renamed to Apex_Destructible_x64.dll. After that it seems to run fine except the incorrect audio language in the cutscenes if the spyrofix isn't used.
