You have to limit the game to run at 60 fps otherwise it runs very slowly. Apparently a known issue with the game regardless of platform. Easisest to do through mangohud
, either through the config file or launching with MANGOHUD_CONFIG=fps_limit=60 mangohud %command%
.
If on a high refresh rate monitor you'll need to limit framerate to 60 fps otherwise it runs very slowly. Easiest way to do it is through mangohud using fps_limit
option.
Runs flawlessly with ultrawide support after a quick tweak
You can run in ultrawide using protontircks to use the registry edit included with the game.
- Run
protontricks 479060 --gui
- Choose
Open existing prefix
- Choose
Registry edit
- Navigate to
DisableAspectLock.reg
and execute it
HUD elements may be stretched which can be fixed using by replacing Bayonetta.exe
with the one in this fix.
Runs perfectly on 6.3-5
I completed the game start to finish without a single issue, highly recommended.
- Ultrawide support without even needing to touch settings
- Achievements work
Works out of the box
- Played with both gamepad and m+k
- No issues with windowing/fullscreen or losing focus
Runs great out of the box
Completed full prologue with no issues, even had full native ultrawide support
Smooth start to finish without tinkering
- Ultrawide fully supported
- Ran on wayland using gamescope
- A couple crashes during whole playthrough but these seemed to be bugs with the game itself and only progress within current level lost
Works out of the box with great performance
- Ultrawide 21:9 works natively during gameplay but cutscenese are pillarboxed
- Solid 100 FPS (using locked framerate setting) at 3440 x 1440
Newer proton version cause super low color depth, must use 5.13-6
Must follow ryzen 3000 fix for graphic novel segments if it applies to you https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/dr5f0b/a_uniquely_ryzen_3000_problem_max_payne_2001/f6q2krp/
Used thirteenag widescreen fix to get 16:9 support with no issues running on an ultrawide monitor. I finished the game before stopping to fix the colors : (
You can get 16:9 support if you want it using thirteenag's fix
- Extract files into installation folder
- Launch with
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n,b" %command%
Proton-6.8-GE-2
Occasional crashes usually on loading screens. Always resolved after a reboot.
- Ending E section was particularly unstable. I rarely experienced crashes in the rest of the game, but towards the end of this section I had it crash two consecutive times. Also the input seemed a little less responsive? There is no save point, so it's frustrating but at least it's short if you need to replay like I did.
- I got 21:9 support by following the hex edits on PCGamingWiki, everything scales properly except UI and cutscene bars.
- To fix the game speed I used the High FPS fix (non-special k version) with the command argument WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" -skipcheck
I was unable to launch with anything newer or older. Otherwise played perfectly start to finish, achievments and all.
I did have some issues with windowing from the latest update, but only because of a multi-monitor setup. Seems the game will always start its resolution from the top left of the X screen, thus preventing proper cursor movement if you don't have a monitor aligned to the top left. This is a simple fix in nvidia-settings
if it affects you.
Worked perfectly start to finish
Achievements only registered in steam after exiting the game, but they definitely work
Mouse limited to top half of screen only in initial startup menu to adjust brightness
Ran fine after forcing experimental and restarting steam - minor frame stuttering in one or two areas at the beginning but otherwise flawless
Awful screen tearing on both native and proton versions, regardless of Vsync settings in game and set through MangoHud. Finally fixed it be enabling Force Full Composition Pipeline
in nvidia-settings
. FInished the game with no problems aftwerward with just VSync enabled in game. Did not switch back to native to see if it worked there, but it might solve the problem such that you don't need to use proton.
Awful screen tearing on both native and proton regardless of Vsync option in game or externally with MangoHud. Fixed by enabling Force Full Composition Pipeline
in nvidia-settings
. Afterward played through with no issues at all under proton. After the fix you may be able to run fine on native, though I didn't test.
Runs perfectly with 6.3-4
- Achievements only popped when using Proton 6.3-4 (did not work on 5.13-6), so make sure to manually set the version.
- 21:9 support out of the box which is awesome.
