Nostalgic experience for every 90's kid.
Internal resolution set to 95; v-sync OFF; refresh rate capped @60fps/60hz; TDP capped @9w. Around 3 1/2 hours of battery life in my OLED at 60% brightness.
Just install and enjoy! Some framerate dips on the low 40s upon entering new areas, but just let it load and it will pretty much be a 60fps experience all throughout.
PS. If you experience heavy stuttering, make sure you tick OFF "VSYNC" in the in-game menu.
If you're not comfortable with having additional installation steps, then just cap your framerate to 30fps and you're good to go. Some dips to the high 20s, but definitely playable. But believe me, the gaming experience that you'd get between installing the fix and not is NIGHT AND DAY. If you install the fix, you dont have to mess with anything ever again. The game plays at a stable 45fps/90hz at 9w TDP on my OLED everytime. or you can uncap everything for a 60fps framerate most of the time.
The gane runs flawlessly.
45fps locked, TDP 12w
A bit distorted
This workaround is exclusive to the OLED. If your game doesn't display the intro video and seems to get stick, do the following:
Launch the game first on game mode just to login with xbox. The screen will eventually freeze but try pressing A and wait until the xbox window pops out. Input your credentials then confirm your login. After you login, exit the game. Go to desktop mode. Use a mouse and keyboard for your convenience. Open Forza 4, go to the options > video then turn full screen to "off". That's really what you only need to solve the startup problems.
Even if you enable "offline mode", the game seems to not save when not connected to the internet.
I use the following video settings:
Dynamic optimization - On Dynamic Render Quality - High Res: 1280x800 Frame Rate (in-game) - 90fps Vsync - off Full Screen - off HDR - on Interface scale - 200
At steam settings, cap fps at 45/90 and TDP at 12w. Solid 45fps with some dips to high 30s on some area (very rare and brief only)
9w TDP 45fps/90hz (OLED) Around 5hrs battery life
Plays perfectly out of the box. Adjustments done only to save battery, but you can still get around 4hrs+ on everything uncapped.
DO NOT change the quality other than HIGH as it will generate heavy "shimmer" artifacts. I get pretty much solid 40fps with these setting.
Tested on steam deck OLED. Burger menu settings: TDP Limit OFF; FPS locked at 40; FSR OFF. In-game Settings: FSR on QUALITY; Graphics on HIGH; FPS on UNLIMITED; VSYNC ON; Full screen @1280x720
Minor dips between 30-40fps in some detailed areas. Pretty much solid 40fps.
The game plays very well. A few tweaks from the devs will make it perfect. The only downside is the price of the full game lol.
Smooth gameplay overall.
Resolution set to 1152x720; turned FSR on steam and set to 3 sharpness. Render resolution at 80%. Locked at 45fps/90hz, 12w TDP. A little over 3 hours of smooth gameplay on my OLED at 60% brightness.
Every text is small, but readable.
Some fps dips in populated areas, on the high 30s.
Pretty much playable OOTB. May improve battery life by adjusting in-game and steam parameters, with a little bit of graphical compromise, but definitely not a dealbreaker.
