mangohud %command%
No problems at all. No lags, no crashes, no performance issues.
Needed to change SELinux settings on openSUSE Aeon, following the guide on the official website (https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Aeon):
sudo getsebool selinuxuser_execmod
If that returns disabled or off you need to enable it
sudo setsebool selinuxuser_execmod 1
Persistent with this:
sudo setsebool -P selinuxuser_execmod 1
This might have some security implications according to https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1206292
mangohud %command% -nolauncher
Highest graphics settings hat some very inconsistent FPS, second two highest worked perfectly and the game still looked very good. I had like two or three freezes during my whole playing time, do not know if that was Linux/Proton related but it was not too annoying anyhow.
ENABLE_VKBASALT=1 mangohud %command% -nolauncher
Highest graphics settings showed very inconsistent results. Second to highest worked very good. I would recommend restarting the game after changing the graphics settings, as simply changing them lead to significant lags which resolved after restarting.
vkBasalt enabled seemed to improve FPS a slight bit, I am not really sure why that was the case. But it was not really that much anyway.
I had no problem at all playing this game until I reinstalled Steam and RDR2 on another distro. Following that distro hop I was not able to log in into the rockstar launcher due to an invalid passwort.
This does not seem to be a linux/proton related issue but I have not yet found a solution for linux.
The native linux version is very laggy and suffers from inconsistent FPS
Very inconsitent FPS to the point where it was unplayable
Lowering the graphics settings did not show any significant improvements. At some point it was unplayable when I had FPS in the lower 20s, even in smaller areas. For a game from 2015 this was not expected at all.
Switching to Proton (experimental in my case) solved the problem for me. Unfortunately the saves do not convert from native to Proton which forced me to replay an hour or two.
Now I get FPS in the 70s or 80s pretty much all the time on the highest settings. This is totally acceptable for my low-to-mid-range GPU on 1440p.
Works without any issues.
There seems to be a bug in a couple of fights in the later parts of the game which are not linux/proton related. Tabbing in and out solves the problem.
