Proton-5.11-GE-3-MF
A basic guide did not fit into ProtonDB, so please see this gist for instructions on how I got it to work.
- And yes, it is needlessly difficult to get this game running.
Games doesn't launch, sadly I'm not proficient enough with Proton and Wine to give detailed info.

If you are using an AMD 3xxxx CPU and Linux kernel <5.4, you might not be able to launch the game. As a workaround, you can set clearcpuid=514 in your kernel boot parameters in GRUB:
- Open the GRUB boot options in nano with admin privileges by running:
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
- Add
clearcpuid=514
to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line. The line should look something like this:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash clearcpuid=514"
- Save the changes to the file and update GRUB configurations by running:
sudo update-grub
- Reboot your system and you should be ready to play the game.

I finally figured out how to apply Hapuga's fixes.
It's mostly just following the included instructions, with the exception of the DLCFix.bat, which cannot be run. Instead one can open the file and manually apply the changes. For running the exe installers, one can use the following command:
protontricks -c "wine <name of exe to run>" <appid>
So if you are currently in the "majesty 2 collection" directory, you could run
protontricks -c "wine ./support/InstallDLC.exe" 73020
protontricks -c "wine ./support/InstallSampleMaps.exe" 73020
protontricks -c "wine ./support/M2CollectionDLCRepair.exe" 73020
Needless to say, this does require that one has installed protontricks.
Works out of the box with Proton 5.0.9.
Loading screens can be a little slow at times, but NEVER forcefully close the game when stuck in a loading screen, especially not when exiting the game after a few hours of gameplay. The game does apparently not save your progress to disk before you quit the game or return to the main menu, so interrupting it will cause data loss.
Don't worry about the game crashing, the loading screens just happen to be a little slow at times, but they'll come eventually (up to a few minutes).
Run just fine when using Proton 5.13-2
When having Firefox with Youtube visually open on my second screen, No Man's Sky starts lagging a little. This is fixed by minimizing the browser, or changing to a tab that isn't Youtube.
Weird spirit box behavior.
I've noted that even though I cannot use speech recognition, the ghost becomes VERY talkative if the spirit box is on while I'm nearby, even though no one is asking any questions.
First time it starts it spans two monitors, fixed by alt-tabbing out and into the game once.
Voicechat works and there doesn't seem to be any significant delay.
Well, almost, my friend who uses Windows keeps crashing, but that's not my problem anymore.

We had a problem with someone on Windows not being able to join the server which was hosted on another Windows machine. I worked fine when I ran the server instead. The problem was probably more network related than Windows related, but it seems that hosting on Linux isn't a problem in any way.
Displays that it's running, then closes. Tried with esync diabled and without DXVK.
Used the fix from https://github.com/Linux74656/SpaceEngineersLinuxPatches
Notice that I changed vcrun2015 to vcrun2017 and applied the broken startup fix and audio crackling fix.
The game catches the mouse and won't let it go, go into steam overlay and Alt-Tab should partly work.

The game might launch to a black screen. Wait about 20 seconds and then press any button, it should jump to the title screen instead of crash.
For some reason, playing without any of the DLCs works just fine, but if I try to add any of the DLCs, the game will crash at startup.

Proton-5.9-GE-8-ST
Ran it with Glorious Eggroll's Proton. Works just fine for the most part, with the only thing I noticed being that the top camera of the Cyclops submarine is not fixed, having it sometimes clip into the sensor tower, but I'm not sure whether this is Protons fault.
