Set FPS to 40
Game runs flawlessly. The only "problem" is that the game is quite zoomed out and because of this, things can be very small on the screen making the game harder than it would be on a large screen. The interface can be rather small as well.
Set FPS to 40
Completed the game with ease - even the gun sections were easy enough using the track pad (you don't need quick responses).
Hitman 2 as installed by default crashes when booting the game. Only when actively setting the game to use Proton Experimental did it stop crashing on boot.
The game works fine but I personally found the screen too small to make it enjoyable. It's too easy to miss details you need on a small screen. As it is, if you can live with this limitation, it's a solid experience with the FPS staying between 30-40 at the vast majority of times at default settings (with DX12).
Manual binding of joystick to arrows
The game does not recognise analog gamepad buttons like the joysticks or triggers. These had to be reconfigured to keyboard buttons.
Be mindful that this game needs a LOT of button assignments and you will need to use the D-pad or left track pad to assign extra keys like swim up or down, scroll item left & right, etc. It can be tricky to keep track of the button assignments.
After all this the game played perfectly from a technical stand point but the game is clearly not designed for a gamepad - mouse aim never felt quite right with the right joystick and the trackpad, while better, doesn't offer enough (as in, both fast enough to quickly turn but accurate enough to aim accurately) to make it an enjoyable experience but this may be fixed with more tweaking.
As such, I'd say the game is perfectly playable ... but not that enjoyable for me because of lack of native joypad support which makes "mouse" aim difficult.
Also note the game was way too dark by default. I had to crank up gamma quite a bit.
I have 40fps turned on by default for most games but in this game, this caused the scrolling to be unsmooth so be sure to set it to 60fps instead.
I found zero performance issues after several levels. I even cranked up the graphics to max. (default they're set to low) and get a solid 60fps so far everywhere.
Controls are great, worked out of the box, zero alterations needed.
In general very much a perfect experience.
Added extra shortcuts to the back pedals.
Limit to 40fps - this game has no action scenes so 40fps is plenty.
I completed the game on the Steam Deck at the very end, you have a time-limited puzzle which, with the track pads, was rather tricky to do. After a few fails, I connected a Bluetooth mouse to finish the puzzle in time.
Otherwise, the game was perfectly easy to complete.
