Having to force stop the game, re-launch and re-watch the initial cutscene in between sessions is way too annoying.
Had to manually configure my Logitech G29, none of the default presets worked
Since the game crashes when exiting sessions, the carreer is unplayable. It may or may not save progress before crashing and most of the time it doesn't save anything.
Game freezes often when skipping the initial cutscene. Letting it play in its entirety is the most reliable way to get into the game. Game crashes every time when exiting a session and must be force stopped on Steam and re-launched.
The setup takes some time and the game still has some serious annoyances after it's setup. I'd say it's worth it if you're a hardcore sim racer and this is a game you really really want to play. If you're just looking for a bit of fun, this is not the game you're looking for.
My Logitech G29 wasn't being detected. I narrowed it down to 2 problems:
- Proton 7.0 and Proton Experimental wheel support is broken. Using Proton 6.3 works fine.
- Flatpak version of Steam has problems with steering wheels. Uninstalling it and installing a non-flatpak version worked.
After these two fixes, everything seems to work perfectly fine.
The only issues I faced were with steering wheel detection and the fixes were quick and simple.
Valve configured it to use Proton 3 by default. Manually set the Proton version in the preferences or the game will fail to launch.
Lacks proper steering wheel support and is completely broken on NVidia
The game shows some initial windows for you to log into a Microsoft account. These windows have some annoyng flickering and the cursor may disappear sometimes. I highly recommend creating a Microsoft account outside of the game so your interaction with these windows is reduced.
Ever since Proton 7.0, steering wheel support has been completely broken. Sadly, the game won't run on 6.3 or older. Here are some of the issues I faced:
- You need to use a non-flatpak version of Steam. The wheel will not be detected when running on Flatpak;
- You need to make sure to enable steam input for the game, otherwise the wheel will be detected as an XBox gamepad;
- Force feedback doesn't work. The best you can do is enable a static autocenter strength by installing oversteer, new-lg4ff or both;
The crashes on a system with a GTX 1080 ti but works fine on a system with a RX 6800 XT. From all the information I could gather, this is a known widespread issue but is not actively being worked on.
The lack of basic steering wheel support ultimately lead me to refund the game. I bought it to play with my Logitech G29 and after hours of research and thinkering just to get it detected, I found out it simply doesn't have force feedback.
Don't bother with it if you have an NVidia graphics card or if you want to play with a steering wheel.
Origin is a pain in the *** but that's not Linux specific
The game itself plays perfectly fine without needing any tinkering. Origin messes up the experience a lot but you can only avoid that on consoles.
It just works
It's as simple as it gets. You download and install the game and it plays perfectly fine.
