Subtitles can be a little hard to read because of how small the text is.
Works very well without needing adjustment. No issues whatsoever.
Controller button prompts would not appear. Game displays keyboard buttons instead.
Game works no problem out of the box.
As the users below me said, you really have no reason not to play CHAOS;CHILD without the Committee of Zero patch. Don't play the game without it. Just get it.
IF YOUR GAME WILL NOT LAUNCH AND THE ERROR CODE STATES THAT THERE IS AN ERROR IMPORTING SETUP FILES: I experienced a weird problem after installing the CoZ patch. When pressing start game from the launcher, the game would immediately crash with the following error message: "There is an error importing setup files", and google/reddit/discord was really unhelpful.
I thought it was a CoZ problem at first, but it seems to be a common problem with japanese-made visual novels (the Science Adventure series has this problem). According to Google, on windows, it's generally a UTF-8 encoding problem, but Steam Deck uses UTF-8 encoding by default.
I tried all the fixes listed on the Steam Community discussion posts, including deleting config.dat in documents. THEY DO NOT WORK ON THE STEAM DECK. Some will even tell you to do something to your Steam Deck root folders. PLEASE DO NOT ALTER YOUR ROOT FOLDERS.
After uninstalling the game and deleting all CoZ files in the game folder, I reinstalled the game, reinstalled the CoZ patch, and it worked. I'm not sure how to recreate this issue, but hopefully this helps someone that has the same problem in the future.
Cutscenes do not work on the Deck.
Tried all the fixes for the missing cutscenes on the Deck. I wish I could say this game was great for the Deck, but it just isn't. YMMV for the konsole/dll/script cutscene fix. The fix worked on the first launch and straight up would not work on all subsequent launches, even if I re-ran the fix script or reinstalled the game. It just isn't worth the time. Play it on something else.
Works right out of the box on the deck. No tinkering needed. Mouse cursor will hang on the main menu screen but disappears right after you start/load the game. A+++++ at max settings.
Game works great out of the box. Just change the control layout to a community layout and you're good to go. (I picked R;N Steam controller).
Not mandatory, but adds to the experience: Get the Committee of Zero patch. It takes 0 time to install and get working. It fixes some consistency issues with the translation, translated videos and CGs, adds mouse support and auto-mode. This is the definitive ROBOTICS;NOTES experience.
Played start to finish. Visual novels like these literally feel like they were made for the Deck.
Battery time was outstanding.
Attempted to play the game without any custom configurations, but I wasn't even able to access the main menu screen and the lag was unbearable. The game is straight up just broken on the Deck.
Not the definitive way to play the game, but 0 issues at max settings. Game is still best played on Mobile if you're planning to raw dog it on the Deck.
