The game hung once upon trying to enter the atelier, early on. Ryza stood there with her hand on the door, hung, until I alt-f4'ed. In the ~15-20 hours I've played since, it hasn't happened again.
If you can get past frequent crashes and long load times, the game otherwise works great. No stuttering here.
Performance seems worse than it should be; barely holding ~50fps at Medium settings. Very playable though.
I rarely get crashes when starting up the game, but once I try to load a level it's at least 50/50 on whether I crash when it finishes loading. Only one mid-level crash across ~6 hours of play, though.
Denuvo apparently commonly breaks multiplayer on Linux.
From the Steam Discussions, it sounds like crashes are somewhat common for some Windows users as well. So it's possible that the issue may be resolved by a patch in future. There is a public beta you can opt in to atm (beta code is "juliannashotme"), but I didn't see any improvements from it personally.
Some occasional stuttering. Not common enough to matter much.
I had to switch to Proton Experimental's "bleeding-edge" beta to get online working, which is set in its properties via Experimental's entry in my Steam library.
Bloodstains don't seem to work; they show up, but activating them does nothing. I didn't try summoning or invading, but I was seeing messages and ghosts running around.
Runs as well as native, if not better
Alt-Tabbing (while playing with a controller) out of borderless windowed causes the mouse to appear, and not disappear. Alt-tabbing out and back in makes it go away (sometimes I also need to click on the window again).
I haven't experienced any of the problems noted in Steam reviews; the game runs anywhere from 60-120fps (per Steam's fps counter) and game speed is unaffected. I've had to do less tweaking than most Windows users, it seems, which is a nice change.
Lag is bearable until after the tutorial
When the game is running smoothly, it's a solid 60fps. When it lags, it dips as low as 5fps and can stay there for a while. It lags infrequently enough during the tutorial area to be playable, but once I left, it tanked to sub-10fps and stayed there 90% of the time.
The performance issues apparently affect a lot of Windows users as well. It's a really cool game and I'm hoping the devs can fix it.
