I had numerous crashes on my old hardware, but now with my new cpu and graphics card (I completly switched to amd from an i 6700k and GTX 980 ti) it seems to work fine. I had one maybe 2 crashes through the entire playthrough and they were not even necessarily proton related. I tested this game before the patch from Gust to improve the playabiliy on the steam deck. After the patch It continued to work fine.

Fog (even when turned off) is a flat grey plane. Reflections in water are just duplicate, skewed models and not actual reflections. On Proton 9 and greater, most areas have white flashing screen that makes the game unplayable. On Proton 8, entering an area (at night?) may cause the entire display to get corrupted ruining game experience until returning to the Atelier (knowing the button sequences is important).
Stuttering, even with atelier sync fix
Occasional freezing

FMV's would not play audio
You must apply the atelier fix like most people here are saing https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix. FMV's would play but had no sound. To fix it go to the game folder, and inde ./Data/x64/ youl'll find multiple folders with .wmv files inside. Convert all of these files with Handbrake or any other video converting application and replace the originals. I used Handbrake defaults, MPEG-4 format, H264(x264) for the video encoder and AAC for audio encoder. Don't forget to change the converted file type to wmv, the name of the files should be exactly the same. After that everything works perfectly.

Text is slightly small in the conversation pop-ups.
You need to download the fix here: https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix After that, go to Manage -> Browse local files -> c/p the d3d11.dll file in the opened folder.
Make sure you also use Latest GloriousEggroll Proton Version (use ProtonUp-QT for easier install) + the command listed in this report. Games should run with no issues.

Fixed after using the command line
I played for about 30 min, no audio in some cutscenes but other than that the game ran fine, the audio glitch was fixed using the command line I have provided (same fix used for Persona 5 Sticker).
Crashed after intro video with Proton GE 7. Needed to upgrade to 8-4 for the game to work

atelier-sync-fix must be install before you play this game well. tutorial video was stuttering in old-release version GE-Proton. however, GE-Proton8-4 no longer causes same situation. but still the opening video's audio doesn't play.

FMV plays but has no sound
Latest proton GE 8.0.1 plus Atelier fix, solves all major issues with the game. FMV plays but without sound but 99% of cutscenes are real time and play flawlwssly.
There are some performance spike areas where GPU usage will spike for seemingly no reason, but that also happens on my Windows rig, so probably just bad optimization on the game as a whole (although not that big of a deal)
Works great now!
atelier-sync-fix by TellowKrinkle https://github.com/TellowKrinkle/atelier-sync-fix this is a crossplatform fork of the original dll by doitsujin. Just put the dll in to the games root directory.
TDP to 12 and the usual steamdeck settings. In-Game medium settings run fine at 40+ fps
like everybody said .. the field conversations are a little small, but this is a general crossplatform problem. I think there is a mod for this.
With proton Proton 8.0-1 the stuttering in the guide menu is gone. if it happens than change the resolution back and forth and it will be fine after that. The intro movie does not play.

If you do not mind the stuttering in the guide pages or tutorials then you will be able to play it and have fun.

Missing sound from the intro videos
Stuttering in Guide Menus when checking on items and tutorials
https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix is needed for it to start, because of the intro videos. Also DO NOT INSTALL GE 54 or above, it literally makes your game and Steam deck crash when you start ryza (or other atelier games) I tested this up to GE 55 since GE 56 was not released yet. Works pretty well with GE 53 and GE 52.

Using Atelier Sync Fix patch to fix the stuttering
Its still stutters sometimes despite already using the fix, but the game performs much better than without it
The opening ivdeos and tutorials videos shows only colored lines and skimming through the tutorial helps menu crashes the game some time. Can't say how frequent it really is though.

Hard system freeze of the OS when playing videos (tutorials)
Some of the crashing, graphics, and stability issues are significantly improved with Proton v8.0-1, the only remaining issues I've observed have to do with the videos.
The game runs well when using GE + Atelier Fix, but you have to be careful of your actions to prevent crashes. I recommend saving ASAP.
For some reason, my computer manages to play audio in cutscenes, while my Deck doesn't. I'm still reporting it as it is a global issue.
The guide menu and tutorial popups can jitter. It all seems related to a menu loading some sort of video (the Guide menu includes the Help submenu, which seems to explain it).
Graphics settings are saved when you manually save the game. This is an issue with the game itself.
Atelier Fix (https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix) is highly recommended. The game's performance is poor out of the box. It seems to be an issue on both Linux and Windows.
Crashes can happen whenever a video tries playing (which is the case for every tutorial, and some of them are unexpected). Do be careful with accessing the Guide menu (seeing related entries, looking up items, ...), as it will try to load videos and can crash the game.
Crashes sometimes also occur during loading of zones, but in my experience, it happens very rarely.
The game will also soft crash when trying to enter an atelier. An easy way to bypass this is to simply fast travel to the atelier, instead of manually entering.
Proton GE is a requirement if you want videos to play. As of this report, no Proton versions seem to be able to play the videos. If you're lucky, audio may play.
Atelier Sync Fix is also almost necessary on Deck, and I can only recommend it on PC as well.
It's an overall playable experience both on PC and Deck, but it can be frustrating due to the random crashes, and since tutorials (the main culprit of crashes) are unexpectable, and you can't really preventively make a save before one plays.
No audio during cutscenes.
Significant performance issues without using atelier-sync-fix as mentioned in other reviews. Performance is good with the fix.
The game very frequently crashes when attempting to display pop-up tutorials. This occurs both on Proton Experimental and GE. Sometimes it helps to leave the area and then come back. I am currently unable to progress in the game because of this issue: when moving to the second map (Cleria) for the first time, a tutorial is supposed to pop up as soon as you regain control of your character, and the game crashes every single time this happens.
The game sometimes freezes while moving quickly (e.g., using the sliding shoe item). This can be worked around by moving more slowly.
It's a tough call. I think the experience is alright overall but I don't think the inexplicable crashes is a good exp
Cutscene audio is complete missing
I've witnessed two crashes going into the atelier on two different occasions.
Hopefully things get ironed out in the long run but I have heard Koei Tecmo isn't exactly the best when it comes to PC relases
The game hung once upon trying to enter the atelier, early on. Ryza stood there with her hand on the door, hung, until I alt-f4'ed. In the ~15-20 hours I've played since, it hasn't happened again.
Collision breaks while swimming, and minor visual bugs. Cant finish the game unless it gets patched.

TDP 9 watts, 40FPS cap, standard settings, Atelier Sync Fix .dll from GitHub
Small text in cutscenes and in party chatter while exploring.
Prerendered cutscene audio missing even on GE Proton. These cutscenes don't play at all without GE.
Certain menus will jitter unexplainably. It wouldn't always happen.
Graphics settings may not save unless you go manually save after changing them. Also, exit the game via the diary rather than force closing.
Game does not run well at all without Atelier Sync Fix DLL from Github. https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix/releases
Others have said that the game frequently crashes while loading. I tried to replicate this on GE Proton 7-52 with CryoUtilities and could not reproduce the crashing, which may be a positive sign. I fast traveled many times in a row and never got a hang.
This will require some work from Valve and/or on the developer's side. You can get it working well with tweaks but the out-of-box experience is poor due to performance issues, missing cutscene video and audio, small text.
The game works great 1440p@~60fps High with my specs without no-problem (After the issues)

Videos (with Proton G.E) has missing audio
Sometimes fullscreen requires set to window mode first and then set to full screen.
After an Nvidia Drivers Update, reboot my machine and maybe some crashes were needed for reencoding the videos, Now works perfectly (and with new videos shown without a crash)
If you don't like the idea of a hard first setup (with crashes), It's better to play on Windows, I think.
I also used AtelierSyncFix with vsync off and 144fps cap with my specs (with a lot of frame time instability in battles but still 60fps)
At the moment, Proton-GE gets past the opening video but It crashes again when It shows the first mechanic demonstration video

Videos (with Proton G.E) has missing audio
Every time it shows a video (like a Mechanic Tutorial, Opening, or the Story so far), it produces a crash after or before the playback. (I need to check if It's a one-time crash or every time. )
I also used AtelierSyncFix and runs okay I guess 1440p@~60fps (min ~55fps - max ~70fps) with vsync off and 144fps cap with my specs (with a lot of frame time instability in battles but still 60fps)
One possible solution could be repacking the game files with gust_tools removing videos, If the game has the ability to pass missing videos without crash all the game (you know, Exceptions controlled)
Please note: With Proton Experimental It will work until the opening video (after the Battle Tutorial-ish)
Experimental didn't play movies at all (including tutorial videos), GE allows movies to play, but there's no audio. All other game audio is fine.

Couldn't play prologue movie, but otherwise no problems so far.
