audio seems to crackle on very low revs on some cars
Doesn't launch from usual Proton (turns off immediately after pressing play), GE-Proton9-20 worked. During the first launch it installs a lot of dependencies in the background and it doesn't indicate that it's doing it, so as others said, be patient, it took more than 10 minutes for me.
After the initial launch, vanilla game seems to be working well. Recognizes my Logitech G29, FFB works, performance is good, getting around 160 fps on Nordschleife. The only problem is the lack of fonts in the menu, but it isn't game breaking.
Content manager with shaders also works, this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qy_RQr8LbM covers it very well, it requires using protontricks.
installed kentie launcher
game is dropping framerate very low during intensive moments on Direct3D, OpenGL is fine
Had to install Kentie Launcher to get the game to run in 1080p. Game is laggy on Direct3D and runs fine on OpenGL. Overall, good.
DXVK_ASYNC=1 RADV_PERFTEST=aco,gpl gamemoderun %command%
Game seems to run around 25% slower compared to Windows on ultra settings, while lower settings seem to be running as good as Windows.
Newer versions of Proton have some issues which cause the framerate to basically halve, so you should switch to 8.0-5, though since the game is pretty well optimized, you still might be getting over 60 fps on experimental if you lower your settings or have beefy hardware, that's why I classified it as playable without tinkering.
Other than that, the performance on ultra is noticably slower than on Windows given my hardware, since it goes from 70 to below 30 fps in heavier scenarios. I'm getting over 100fps on high though, which is about what you would expect from this game on Windows. Probably related to Vulkan having lower performance rendering certain stuff compared to DX.
Slow downs that require resetting the game every few hours or so
Works well, only issue that I've encountered (rarely) was the game slowing down after changing locations, going to the menu or there were maybe some other triggers, it was fixable by either restarting the game or saving. Definitely playable overall.
MANGOHUD_CONFIG=fps_limit=60
Game going above 60fps was causing very frequent crashes, you need to cap it to 60 or below using an utility like Mangohud or Gamescope. I used Mangohud since Gamescope refuses to work on my current setup.
very light stutters
It's playable. I was experiencing very short stutters every 3 seconds or so, switching from experimental to Proton 8.0-5 seems to minimize it, although they still occur.
Zero issues whatsoever, runs exactly the same if not better than on Windows.
Out of the box
I've been playing for 15h and haven't encountered any issues so far, no tinkering.
GoG version just works.
skins not working properly on the native version
hits not registering properly
stutters
Game feels off, and the post-play hit graph looks like I'm having polling rate issues (flat lines with nothing in between them) and I'm unable to achieve high accuracy because of that. I've tried changing audio settings, and plenty of other things and nothing worked.
This happens on both native and Proton version, and didn't happen on the exact same setup on Windows. I've thought that this might be a keyboard issue that only occurs on Linux, but on the other hand, osu!(lazer)'s native Linux version registers hits properly and doesn't feel off at all. Native version has also a bunch of issues, like skins not working properly.
It made me switch back to osu!.
Native version has worse performance than Proton, but it's still very playable.
