OTHER tested proton versions ran fine, except cutscene videos were garbled on the right half of the screen.
Runs fairly well, but needs more work. I wouldn't be surprised if this title soon becomes as stable as The Witcher 3.
At least one audio track was noticeably missing in certain scenes between a new game start and reaching V's apartment for the first time. (Not tested beyond this point.) This didn't make the game unplayable, but there was a sense of lost immersion and missing enjoyment. Comparing the same game play in Windows, I noted that with Proton, some environmental sounds were missing (e.g. loud amplified voices echoing overhead while in the alley and maybe subtle background music), machine guns in the training session, and talking to NPC peds who are not part of the story had no audio at all (subtitles only, no audible sound).
The game froze completely three times during the first 2-4 hours which required a forced process kill.
The only customizations I've applied are selecting the indicated proton version and adding command-line option "--SkipLauncher" which I think is optional as far as compatibility is concerned. Graphic settings are set to low-medium, 1920x1080. With CP2077 patch 1.2 installed, this retest took around two hours to complete while looking for stability issues. One mission ("Sweet Dreams") was played to completion; much running and driving around Night City was achieved with no issues; no game crashes. Performance was slightly worse than native Windows with high graphic settings, but the overall experience wasn't unplayable with my aging hardware.
No issues using OpenGL.
Game crashed once after 2-3 hours of play while in-game Vulcan option was set. No problems to-date (additional 3-4 hours) after setting it back to OpenGL.
The tweaks to get this running are well documented. Issues are minor IMHO - Over 800 hours played using proton
I used redmcg's tips found on github.
No issues (Alt-Tab, etc) when using borderless window mode. Full screen is possible, but Alt-Tabbing doesn't always switch cleanly.
(Thrustmaster T.16000m HOTAS) Copying the bind file from Windows to Linux or vice-versa works with maybe one exception: Two Axis settings are swapped. (Z and RX?) It is fixable by re-defining in-game the particular control that uses these axes.
In Windows, I can use the Ultra video settings with very rarely any noticeable slowdown. Using Proton, I must tweak the video settings starting with High video as the base setting to achieve similar performance.
A few times I have needed to reapply the tweaks (using protontricks/winetricks) after many weeks/months go by; I think this is after a proton update? Also, on rare occasions (related?), the game will not launch; it will launch after trying again (no tweaking needed between the two attempts).
After a fresh re-install and using Proton 5.13.2 with the custom wine-mono found on redmcg's github wiki, stability has improved overall.
Right after the re-install, the game crashed a couple times before the launcher started and once again while the launcher was running, but before loading the main game. No problems afterwards.
Back up your bind files, etc after getting up and running.
DLSS on. (worse with it off)
It just works.
In Manjaro (Arch), I installed and use "Steam (Native)" which I've had more luck with all game compatibility compared to using "Steam (Runtime)."
It just works
The game automatically selected ultra graphics settings. I manually enabled all RTX options. Solid frame rate over 60 FPS during my initial testing (15-30 minutes).

I have not tried other proton versions with this game. I haven't tried multiplayer.
Using defaults, the controller (xbox) was detected sometimes, but would drop out. No issues after switching to Experimental.
