Previous PunkBuster issues have been resolved. Multiplayer works perfectly these days.
The game works and runs great but punkbuster will kick players. This was not the case in my prior experience playing and is a new issue.
Attempted to manually install punkbuster via protontricks
As of Nov 27, 2023 punkbuster will kick you after a few minutes. This has not happened up until now in my ~100hrs of playing on proton. It seems to be affecting other players as well.
Enjoyable experience with Proton GE + audio fix. Use Nvidia beta drivers for best performance.
5.4-GE-3 GloriousEggroll
Changed my system's audio sample rate to 48000 Hz to fix crackling.
Sometimes Alt-Tab would not work. Fixed by playing in windowed mode.
Performance slightly lower than when played on Windows. Lowered resolution for smoother experience.
1 random crash so far in ~6 hours of gameplay.
I had less stability with my normal up-to-date drivers on Arch but the game performs very well with Nvidia's beta drivers.
Runs great. Initial loading screen when starting up the game takes longer than I'd expect but other than that it works flawlessly.
5.4-GE-3 GloriousEggroll
Protonfix automatically applied via 5.4-GE-3
The game runs great out of the box on 5.4-GE-3. When launching with commonly suggested options it would freeze after the opening and I'd be able to hear audio but had to manually kill the process as the screen wasn't changing. Removing launch options allowed it to run normally as long as I didn't click to skip the intro. Let the intro run, get to the menu, and all is well.
If you are having problems I highly recommend trying 5.4-GE-3 or similar GE builds of proton and launching without any options. Load times are quick and I didn't experience stutter. I did have FPS drops temporarily when large amounts of enemies spawn in at once, but after a few seconds it goes back to running smoothly.
Overall great experience. Played for a few hours with a group of 4 other friends who were all on Windows. 2 of them had issues with long load times or crashes while my game never crashed with Proton and load times were snappy.
Ran perfectly for me out of the box with Proton 5.13. Avoided trying newer GE versions due to other reports of it not working.
Works out of the box. Native version wouldn't launch at all, default proton works flawlessly.
Runs as expected other than triggering a bug with pulseaudio. Use Proton 4.11-13 for best results.
When opening the map screen to select a planet, audio changes bitrate and becomes high-pitched (using pulseaudio). Must do pulseaudio --kill && pulseaudio --start in terminal to restore audio to normal pitch.
