My laptop has a optimus GPU Nvidia 860M 4GB and i am using Manjaro with KDE desktop environment. Run games throuhgh my discreet gpu i am using "prime-run %command%" in launch options in all my games. Eventhough Bioshock:Remastered worked like tihs Some textures were extremely blurry and it made the game unbearable for me. After some research I've changed mu launch options to "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 prime-run %command% -nointro" There is no blurry textures or any sort of mishaps for me. I have also tried using wine d3d11 option but that made my fps drop to 25 and game was a slide show so I removed it. Now I can play ~60fps with Vsync open in game settings and there are no problems. I hope this would help someone too.
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 prime-run %command% -nointro
You should install protontricks, select Steam Play to use Proton 5.0-9 because as of Proton 5.13-1 I couldn't get the game launcher work whatever i do. So select Proton 5.0-9. Try launching the game once and meanwhile you can keep track of whats happening on system monitor software such as ksysguard or htop. If you search for steam you can see EDLaunch.exe is running then disappear. After you do that go to terminal and use "protontricks 359320 -q dotnet472 win7" command without commas. It will take a while but it will install all .NET Framework versions for all possible windows versions while showing a bing bunch of errors which you don't need to care about. I would take 30-40 minutes on my rig without SSD and a slower broadband connection. It may vary for you. After it has done with it's thing go to steam library and select Elite Dangerous and select Play. I don't own any VR sets so idk how well it works but I got to play both ED:Vanilla and ED:Horizons and both worked like charm. So I hope this would help anyone searching how to make ED work on linux.
If you use Proton Experimental game just gives black screen and needs to be terminated. Just force the game to use Proton 7.0-4 under Properties->Compatibility and game plays smooth as butter.
Not playable with Proton 7.0-3 and Proton Experimental
The game works with neither experimental nor 7.0-3. The game starts, starting sequence of screens can be seen in a windowed fashion and when it is time to get to the main menu game minimizes itself and the window of game doesn't come back to screen no matter what.
Just do the needed 4 steps which is can be found on protondb.com after that is smooth sailing.
"PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_OLD_GL_STRING=1 PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 prime-run %command%" (prime-run because I am using a optimus laptop with manjaro)
I have run "WINEPREFIX=${HOME}/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/8800/pfx/ winetricks d3dx9 msxml3 msxml4 vcrun2003 quartz devenum corefonts lucida tahoma" from terminal. Before doing it the game was beginning to main menu but couldn't start a new game.
There is no reason for this game to have fps drop issues on my hardware but it has. There is abysmal support for it in discussions. If you are using linux stay away from this game.
Tropico 2: Pirate cave: Installing worked Starting worked. For playing I first had to modify: Tropico 2/Tropico 2.ini Line 14 from: SoftwareDevice=0 To: SoftwareDevice=1
Beside having to choose proton version 5.13, it's smooth sailing.
If you select Steam Linux Runtime, Proton Experimental and Proton 6.3-4 game will not start. So just select Proton 5.13-6 and game launches and plays without any problem.
