Finally runs as intended, no more problems with video playback
Runs fine
Text and distance to target indicators can be small. Not too disruptive to gameplay.
Using bazzite:39. No tinkering.
Videos played fine in the Steam version, default Proton.
Game does not seem well optimized, but it is beautiful. ~35-40fps on high settings, 45-55fps on low settings. Both at 15w TDP.
Played on High Settings and plugged into power. Because it is a low action game, 35-40fps stil looks good.
Videos don't load
It is playable and it would be a great game to play on the Deck, but the videos not playing/loading is a dealbreaker for me.
Runs well with the default configuration
I did not experience the previously reported issues with playing the videos, they appear to have been fixed.
Ran Epic Store version via Heroic and installed GE-Proton8-6 via protonup-qt. Runs flawlessly and no need to manually install Media Foundation dll's
Had to add binding for extra keys (P for info, etc) not required.
Would rather have to map a few extra keys instead of miss the videos.
mf-install did not work
Videos would not play
Using Heroic Games Launcher. Even installing mf.dll videos won't load. (I had to copy it because a cabextract error)
Videos won't load even if mf.dll is installed.
Game works great, but videos won't load.
Fixes auto playing videos. "Insights" plays at something like one frame every 10 seconds and are unwatchable
Videos aren't playing. Not really required for appreciating the game, but you're missing out on potentially interesting background info about oceanography -- and two achievements tied to watching all the episodes.
Kept switching between Proton versions, hence the "Tinker" report:
- At first the game hung on the initial loading screen with default Proton (6.3-2), so I switched back to 5.13. That worked well until about halfway through the game, when it got stuck on a black screen while playing an unskippable video cutscene.
- Tried again with default Proton (by that time 6.3-3 had been released) and could continue to play until the end of the game.
It seems to work about as well - or not entirely well - as on Windows. A little buggy, but playable and enjoyable.
5.11-GE-3-MF GloriousEggroll
My previously reported save issue was the game, not Proton - it's fixed now. Occasional issues with KB/M input have appeared instead (also for Windows users); "Continue" doesn't work, "Load" does.
Science-based, chill deep sea exploration game.
One out of 10+ videos did not play (the one after day 2). Everything else worked fine.
Technically playable, but can't save so I lost all my progress when the game crashed. I tried both GE versions mentioned by others here.
5.11-GE-3-MF GloriousEggroll
Save/Load slots didn't show up in the menu, a symbol indicated it was trying to load
crashes or huge lags when tabbing out of the game (to browser etc.)
Videos don't play with stock Proton without Media Foundation, though you can skip the black screen by pressing the "F" key (as indicated). Previous failure reports may not have tried this! Stock Proton 5.13-1 does hang on exit. Everything works perfectly with Proton-5.11-GE-3-MF.
For now, the game runs fine at 60 FPS. I will update this report if something bad comes up.
Closing the game while in Fullscreen freezes the entire system.
Run Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF (https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/5.8-GE-2-MF) to fix the black screen when a new game is started.
