When in fullscreen mode, I could open the Steam overlay, but could not right-click on any friends to invite them. Switching to windowed-mode allowed this to work without issue.

Newest update fixed most of the problems
As of the newest update it works out of the box, no crashes or audio issues (so far!)

Every time it loads a new area, it duplicates the audio streams which makes it play loud static
If you're willing to play without audio or manually delete the duplicate audio steam, it's otherwise completely playable
Played this with my friend that lives on the opposite side of the US. Had no issues (she uses a Desktop PC.)

Game crashes on the first loading screen before the main menu appears. The game is unplayable.
Experimental did not fix the crashing issue.

No music on most Proton verisons, Proton Exp (2023/02/07) works but cuts out eventually.
When using a Bluetooth controller if it disconnects it will not reconnect automatically and requires game to be restarted in order to function again.
I haven't had a single annoying issue with this game, no audio is not a dealbreaker for this fun game and the controller issue is basically a non-issue especially if you aren't playing on the TV.

Using standard protons, the game would crash 100% of the time after splash screens.
However using GE-Proton I was able to play the game both hosting with windows users, or joining a windows hosted game session.
The game still crashes occasionally when joining a lobby, but that happens for my windows friends as well, likely being an issue with the game itself.
The game doesn't close after being quit and continues to lock cursor input, needing to be SIGTERM'd from a terminal.
After setting compatibility Proton GE I could play flawlessly. I played through the game to completion, earning all achievements.
The only "issue" is that when the game is quit, you have to hit "B" because it quits to a blank screen that also prompts you in the corner to hit B.

Game hangs on exit
Audio was working for me with GE 7.49. Game does hang on exit as others have reported, but otherwise everything was working great.
Will sometimes hang on exit
Proton current (7.0-5 as of writing) would not launch and would hang on the "this game will use XYZ control profile" screen. Proton experimental would start to the developer splash screens then crash before reaching the menu. GE runs flawless except for intermittent incomplete exits.
If you alt-tab out when fullscreen is on, the taskbar stays in front.
I tried the top 4 proton versions in Steam and that didn't work, so I started installing a few GE protons. I tried Proton-6.9-GE-2, GE-Proton7-41 and GE-Proton7-14. None of those worked for me, except Proton-7.3-GE-1.. I also have a laptop with an Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU and it worked fine on the latest Steam Play proton just fine.
Installs, launches, but never displays on screen.
Great game, played perfectly on the Steam Deck. Played online for several hours with friends and didn't have any real issues, felt verified.
I never heard music, I tried increasing the settings in game but nothing seemed to change. All other sounds were fine though so it wasn't that bad really.
I actually switched to it since I was having issues on a Windows handheld...
Used to run fine until Proton updated in Aug. '22 now it won't launch!
It started with a cloud save error and progressed to not launching anymore. I tried uninstalling & reinstalling the game thinking the files just got corrupted, but no. I ran updates. No change. I've tried all of the following proton versions: 3.7-8, 3.16-9, 4.2-9, 4.11-13, 5.0-10, 5.13-6, 6.3-8, 7.0-3, Exprimental, G.E.: 5.21, 6.4, 6.8, 6.9, 6.10, 6.12, & 6.13 all to no avail. Steam says it's launching then playing but a game window doesn't pop up for me. It will hang for 5 to 20 minutes or more saying it's playing but no window. Eventually the play button turns green again. If anyone knows a fix for this issue, I'd really like to be able to play my game again. Thanks :)
Works great - Proton 7.0-3
Only thing is that after quitting the game doesn't actually end it's process. You have to kill the process yourself. Also, the demo isn't in protondb but the demo crashes on startup. Full version works fine.
No music
Only the music is missing. PulseAudio Mixer (on desktop Linux, where this issue also manifests) shows two audio streams, but one is always silent.
Finished game without in-game issues
Game hangs on exit and has to be force closed
Some texts are little bit too small, but it's not terrible
With recent updates the game is now working perfectly fine on Deck.
No audio
Overall experience is good. But lack of audio is difficult to playthrough
Got to the loading screen and crashed
As others have mentioned, must force stop the game. It hangs on exit.

Does not close properly, so needs a second time for closing the game.
At default the game crashes before getting to the main menu.
Seems to run without any crashing now on GE-Proton, but needs to be force stopped after quitting.
proton_use_d3d9=1 %command%
if you have problems with controller try setting the desktop mode to a controller layout
Crashes using standard proton at splash screen.
The only thing that was visible was the splash screen, the moment it tried to get to the main menu it closed the game.
Doesn't work yet without configuring

6.21-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Sometimes game does not detect my controller unless I go into the options menu and review the controller settings. Once on the controller settings screen the controller instantly starts working.
As long as controller issues are solved, experience is good!
Game seems to detect controller, but wants to use it as MKB emulation instead of as a controller, or even randomly switch between the two.
GE 6.13 seems to have fixed whatever issues were plaguing my game from getting beyond the launch intros. Also seems to have solved installation of distributables issues.

Crashes to desktop after playing studio intros, but before loading main menu.
At one point I was able to play this game without issues for hours on end, but I no longer can. Could be a kernel/drive/game update that messed something up or maybe something with my wine conflicts now, who knows!
At the moment, however, Proton-experimental gives best results (even various proton-ge releases won't even get to the intros).

I only see the small animation intro and game crash/quit directly after that.
I try few proton version. Experimental one is the best for me. Others don't even open the game.

Proton-6.9-GE-2 GloriousEggroll

As with others this game would randomly crash 1-3 minutes after opening until latest GloriousEggroll fork of Proton had crash fixes for Resident Evil Village. Afterwards played 10+ hours both single and online co-op with almost no issues (Had a crash if I sat on the online lobby screen for >5 mins or so, nowhere else)
Currently unplayable, game crashes every few minutes
Game crashes every couple of minutes, rendering it unplayable
Plays beginning dev/publisher credits, then either freezes or crashes.

Proton 6.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.1-GE-2
Sound effects work but music does not.
The game almost always* crashes about 3 minutes after the game is started. It does not seem to be triggered by anything and it will happen even if you let the game sit idly on the title screen. *I said "almost always" because the second time I ran the game it didn't crash and I was able to play for a few hours (including both solo and online coop with a friend). This is the only time I've been able to get the game to run without crashing and I have tried countless things since then to no avail.
I have tested several versions of Proton with several options. 'Proton Experimental' is the only other one that can start the game but it hangs almost immediately. The logs mention not being able to recognize a video format and an audio format -- testing with mf-install on 'Proton Experimental' made the game stop launching altogether (I had to uninstall and reinstall it to get it working again). The logs have a lot of info
The game is brand new though and there are patches scheduled to come out so maybe something will get fixed.
Here is a copy of proton's logs when running the game using glorious-eggroll and letting it crash at the title screen (without ever touching the controller or anything). http://sprunge.us/iqVgvC

Game always starts in windowed mode either if fullscreen is active
Game doesn't start with steam's proton, It needed to be launched with proton-GE 5.21
