Other than the issue with full screen at 3840×2160. The game was flawless. There was a single crash during my 16 hours of gameplay.
Running three monitors.
- Left: 1920×1080@60hz
- Mid: 3820×2160@144hz
- Right: 1920×1080@60hz
Launching the game would sometimes have the window originate between the left and mid monitor with a resolution of 2880×1620 in windowed mode.
I got around this by right-clicking the game window on my taskbar (KDE), clicking “more” → “move”. Where I then positioned the window on my main monitor.
After doing so, I would change the settings from Windowed to Full Screen. Apply the settings and quit the game. (Leaving the resolution at 2880×1620).
Then I'd launch the game again. This time changing the resolution to 3840×2160.
Occasionally, when I would “apply” the new resolution, it would glitch and not take up the whole screen. In which case I would try again until it worked.
While I played with GE-Proton9-2. I can't say if it's required. As I never attempted to play native or with the default proton.

Native works fantastically without tinkering
Completed the whole game and didn't have any crashes or any problems.
Found no issues playing Native
Seems to run well natively
40Hz/40 fps
install the beta test_new
While there may be work arounds that others have had work successfully, out of the box this game does not run. I truly don't understand why it is verified by Steam and was quite disappointed.
Native, go to property and change beta to test_new.
go to property and change beta to test_new.
It won't start with default branch.
Found no issues on the native version
Installed but did not launch. Launched and worked fine when forced to use proton 6.3-8
Truly unsure why this is verified.

If you aren't comfortable tinkering, wait for the developer to release a patch for Steam Deck.
downloaded libsdl1.2-compat_1.2.52-4_amd64.deb and extracted libSDL-1.2.so.1.2.52 to the game folder. Created 2 linked files that pointed towards this new file.

NOTE: the developer, Baroque Decay, is working on a fix currently for Steam Deck. Only follow these steps if you can't launch the game and want to start playing right away.
- download this library from Debian: http://http.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/s/sdl12-compat/libsdl1.2-compat_1.2.52-4_amd64.deb
- go to the download and right click libsdl1.2-compat_1.2.52-4_amd64.deb -> "extract archive here, autodetect subfolder"
- open folder you just extracted "libsdl1.2-compat_1.2.52-4_amd64"
- right click data.tar.xz -> "extract archive here, autodetect subfolder"
- open the newly extracted folder "usr" then -> lib -> x86_64-linux-gnu -> sdl12-compat
- right click libSDL-1.2.so.1.2.52 -> copy
- open steam, right click yuppie -> properties, set compatibility to Steam Linux Runtime
- go to Local files -> browse...
- open lib folder in the game folder
- paste libSDL-1.2.so.1.2.52 there
- click hamburger menu, create new -> link to file, name libSDL-1.2.so.0, file to link to libSDL-1.2.so.1.2.52
- click top right hamburger menu, create new -> link to file, name libSDL-1.2.so, file to link to libSDL-1.2.so.0

D-pad input was inverted for up and down, but this to be a known issue with the steam controller override, and can be disabled for the game.
Both proton and native installations initially fail to launch, giving the error: 18:51:18.502 ERROR Main - Error while launching game com.jogamp.opengl.GLException: Profile GL2 is not available on WindowsGraphicsDevice[type .windows, connection decon, unitID 0, handle 0x0, owner false, NullToolkitLock[obj 0x65987993]], but: [GLProfile[GL4ES3/GL4.hw], GLProfile[GL2ES2/GL4.hw], GLProfile[GL4/GL4.hw], GLProfile[GL4/GL4.hw], GLProfile[GL3/GL4.hw], GLProfile[GL2GL3/GL4.hw]]
The issue seems to be that the game expects SDL1 libraries, but SDL 1 is very outdated and no longer supported on many systems. On fedora, I was able to install the 'sdl12-compat' package on top of sdl2 and the game started just fine after that.
Baroque Decay are working on steam deck compatibility now, witch may fix the problem with controller and sdl support. For now, though, you'll need to support the SDL 1.2 api in order to paly the game.
Will install but won't launch using several verions of proton.

Flat out won't work
Won't launch via native or proton.
Works fine

Neither Proton nor Native works
The game does not launch. No error message, and no log output that seems to indicate what is going wrong. Seems to be a common issue.
