install, start & play @ steamos 3.6.22
Game only has keyboard prompts. Controller works perfectly well, you just have to guess a bit. :-)
Game sometimes feel slow and chops sometimes, even though it is an old game. When this is not happening, it works really well.
Use Proton-7.3-GE-1. On the latest Proton or GE-Proton the cutscenes are blank, at least for the non-Steam versions. For whatever reason this older GE version works flawlessly. Also, don't forget to adjust the video settings and put audio quality to medium. Can't believe a game that I found to look amazing back in the PS3 days now runs on a portable device. Doesn't look that nice nowadays, but it is still a ton of fun and runs nicely on the Deck.
Solid 60fps. Prompts are keyboard prompts.
WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 %command%
Audio cut out during gameplay until restarting the game. This happened twice in the time it took to beat singleplayer.
Install and go on Deck

Perfect aside from a couple minor UI issues - only keyboard prompts are shown, and profile name is set to generic "steamuser."
Using 960x540 w/FSR Processor TDP set to 6w
The game has no idea what to do with the graphical settings on load so it sets it to lowest settings with VSYNC. Turn off vsync or you will get some weird frame drops.
Was able to install and launch no problem. The only oddity is the graphics default to lowest settings at 800p and vsync on. My settings were as follows. Battery life with this setup is ~2:45 - 3:00 hours. You can easily get more if you drop the graphics settings down or even set the frame limiter to 30. These are the settings I used
In Game
-Graphics: Max
-AA: 8x
-VSync: Off
-Res: 540p
-In Deck
-Frame Limiter: 60
-Processor TDP: 6
-Full FSR
Even on low settings the game doesn't run at solid 60 fps when loads of cars are exploding and crashing into each other.
The game crashes when playing the credits, which happens after winnng the last race, but progress was still saved.
Works great! Used Xbox controller with xow.
This is my secondary low power laptop. Runs well considering low end hardware
Out of box with stock Proton 5.0-9 and wired Xbox 360 Controller.

Most of the time the game works perfectly. That being said, there are a couple of tracks that crash the game (when they are loaded, not mid-race) or are displayed as a completely black screen.

Works perfectly out of the box - only minor performance considerations easily solved by turning down the quality settings to medium.

Install was smooth. Game started up fine. Attempting to alt-tab or use the steam overlay, possibly results in game crashing. No cursor support if you do get to the steam overlay. Menu buttons would occasionally stay visible after utilizing them during videos. Navigating menus was fine. Display options worked with bugs. Changing quality was acceptable, but changing AA settings would cause display to hang. If you restarted the game, AA settings would be applied. Running the game with AA on seemed to have crashed it. I turned the quality to the lowest setting and with AA off, game seemed to play just fine. Quite a bit of pop-in with the environment, but gameplay was acceptable. I tried a standard race and a destruction race, no issues actually playing it, so long as it loaded. Occasionally would experience black spots before and after race. Controller support exists, but I was unable to utilize my Xbox One controller with the game, even using it via steam's controller default. Multiplayer was not tested.

Game works flawlessly and with good performance, the online connectivity appears to work too, I was able to create an online account and login. Only tried playing singleplayer though.
