Works surprisingly well. This is terrible news, I've lost three nights of sleep playing this game already.
When starting the game initially, country colors and borders where not showing, this was fixed by changing the renderer on the Paradox Launcher to OpenGL.

Unlayable on Dx11, missing soldier models on Dx9, OpenGl works best.
Switch to OpenGL for no graphical issues

Runs just as I'd expect on native, no significant issues
Game refuses to respect primary display settings and must be manually moved to the primary display
Cloud autosaves tend to corrupt themselves
原版游戏开箱即用,但当你使用创意工坊剧本时可能存在闪退,如TNO

works perfectly out of box
no need for tweaks here- but some other distros might have to change rendering options to open gl - but for me it was auto-set to that and i couldnt chnage it anyways

Black Map if not using OpenGL renderer

Switch to OpenGL in launcher's "game setting" (not launcher settings) otherwise black map.

DX11 would cause a black map. Select OpenGL in the launcher settings.
The native version of HOI4 kinda sucks. Use the Proton compatible version but then you need to use OpenGL.

In launcer options, set renderer to OpenGL

Works well on Wayland with reasonable Nvidia drivers
Works flawlessly out of the box, even though some mods can be incompatible with Linux version. Using Proton may help launch the game with such a mod, but graphical issues like missing textures can occur
Native version works on Wayland with no tinkering on 565 Nvidia driver provided by Arch. On older drivers like 550 game launcher will flicker heavily on Wayland, making it hard to use + game can behave weirdly in many cases: it may not launch, progress bar may go backwards while launching, graphics may flicker. X11 has no issues no matter the driver version

If using proton change in launcher to directx9 othervise black map

game runs great
sometimes the mouse cursor is dislocated on the screen. A fix is to change from windowed to fullscreen and vice versa. Otherwise, it runs great

This works better than on Windows 11
Worked great out of the box.

Runs flawlessly without cloud saves.
Steam Cloud saves were nonfunctional, but I was unable to pin down if this is a game issue or a Linux issue.

Acceptable
Real position of cursor can become misplaced in Fullscreen, requiring swap to Borderless. Vice versa.
Given overall sorry state of the game, "it's better than bad - it's good!"

Missing textures (map appears black) if using DirectX, switch to OpenGL to solve.
You might be wondering why even use the proton version when there is a native version. The main reason why you'd want to use the proton version over native is if you are running on Wayland and have multiple different resolution monitors, which can cause some issues for this game. In that aspect, it does work better than native.
It works perfectly, just like on Windows 10.

Borked since the latest launcher update
I updated the launcher last week (it still worked fine at that point) as per the launcher itself was necessary, but ever since that update the launcher automatically closes down whenever I launch it from Steam. The game itself further on will probably still be fine, but the launcher? Yeah, no dice. At all. Bug report on Paradox Plaza has been fully ignored so far too.

__GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATION=1 mangohud gamemoderun %command%
With fullscreen enabled when I switch focus to a different window hoi doesn't seem to lose focus of the mouse cursor, and so it'll forever keep moving until you refocus the game.
Works exact same as on Windows literally no difference it could be quicker for all I know but I couldn't see do to a 60fps cap.
gamemoderun %command%

Worked fine after a minor fix (although a pain to google!).
Desert tiles (and others?) don't render correctly when high texture quality was selected. Bumping down to medium fixed it.

Не работает полноэкранный режим
Игра работает отлдично, но нет полноэкранного режима

Working faster in linux despide clausewitz engine that still makes this game run shitty with mods like milenium dawn
after opening focus tree game started stuttering and only in focus tree
Base game runs flawlessly. However some mods cause occasional crashes, such as the Millennium Dawn mod.

Going into the game works, yes, BUT trying to make a save completely crashes the game and i need to forcefully shut it down
Good game, but i cant seem to play
