You only have to install java to run this game. I wrote on my terminal "sudo apt install openjdk-21-jdk" so now it runs correctly. Additionaly, if you still have issues to open it, maybe a solution could be going to the FarSky directory (throught terminal) and launc FarSky with "./FarSky.sh". Hope this works for you, game runs perfect
I'm not sure the hassle is worth the game. It's a shame that the developers didn't fix issues before abandoning the program.
Not sure, because Steam is not loading it, it may not be cloud saving.
I had to start the game from command line after installing Java to the wine pfx. It wouldn't launch through the Steam client.
Java has to be older version. You have to install it in the wine prefix and even then I'm not sure if I've done everything correctly, as I can't load it without a command line.
I couldn't run the program natively, I had to install a Wine prefix, then install the older version of java, then I could only launch from the command line. I wouldn't recommend this game unless you are interested in underwater type games.
There is one popup that shows an information
The information is: This application requires a Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0
Vielleicht MUSS es unbedingt die java-8 Version sein?
Instead of /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/bin/java I was forced to use the "newer" version of java-11-openjdk.
Requires OpenJDK to be installed, ensure it is correctly
Only without having the correct java install and path
Requires the player to use " sudo apt install openjdk-8-jdk " in terminal and install openjdk correctly, then has to point the game to the custom path " /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/bin/java "
Will not run, no matter what java I pointed it to.
Tested with OpenJDK and Oracle 1.8.0
Native and Proton didn't work me me
there is problem with missing JAVA JRE, but it's not hard to solve it. Think about it as the extra pre-game puzzle :-)
There is often a problem with the absence of JAVA JRE in the operating system. So don't forget to run "sudo apt install openjdk-8-jdk" before running. After that, the game launcher starts up succesfully, click the [Options] button and enter the new "java path" /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/bin/java in it. The game will then work without problems.
Game requires Java runtime. Doesn't start on Linux in Steam (Flatpak container).
The native version.. opens just an options screen and then exits. Cant launch the game.
