After changing the resolution to the highest supported one, the small window fills the screen entirely and the game runs smoothly.
It's probably the way the game is but controls are a bit too floaty and oversensitive by default
Game runs just fine except the pre-rendered cutscenes that are very low resolution (it's a very old game). But if I remember correctly no other cutscene aside from the intro is pre-rendered in the game.

The unremovable "dgvoodoo" logo in the corner makes it feel like you're playing a demo, not a full game.

The intro has distorted audio, and at then end of the intro it is BLASTING loud for a second or two. If you are wearing headphones it MAY CAUSE EAR DAMAGE, it is so loud.
Using the dgvoodoo fix, which is needed for it to run, results in there being a constant "dgvoodoo" logo in the bottom left corner. I could find no way to remove this.
Dgvoodoo is necessary. You need to put what's in the MS/x86 folder in the zip into the Omikron folder.
The drawback is there will be a "dgvoodoo" logo constantly on screen that there seems to be no way to remove. It makes the game feel cheap in a way I was not expecting and is a constant annoyance, for me at least. I am surprised no one else has mentioned this. It would have been better to know about this before downloading and setting up the game.
I tried multiple versions from http://www.dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/bin/ but all of the ones I tried had this watermark problem.
For controls, this game uses arrows to move by default, not wasd. I didn't set up controls because I can see the dgvoodoo watermark will bother me too much to play this game, so I can't say how much trouble changing the controls to a more modern setup would be.

I used Keyboard And Mouse layout, which I customized as follows:
- A: Return
- B: Space
- X: Ctrl
- Y: Tab
- R2: Shift
- L2: L
Additionally, in the game's control menu, I remapped the following actions:
- In "Shoot": Weapon mapped to Tab instead of Alt
- In "Fights": Strafe left mapped to L (instead of Delete), and Strafe Right mapped to Shift (instead of End), Punch 1 mapped to Return (instead of Q), Punch 2 mapped to Space (instead of W), Kick 1 mapped to Ctrl (instead of A), Kick 2 mapped to Tab (instead of S)
Turn your volume down and don't put on headsets at the very beginning of the game (when Kay'l jumps into the vortex), there is a very loud audio glitch.
You need dgvoodoo. I used version 2.79.3 (http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/bin/dgVoodoo2_79_3.zip), extracted and copied the content of MS/x86 into the game directory.
The intro video (before title screen) doesn't play correctly. I also experienced a weird "rain" effect in the game at some point, but it disappeared after opening the sneak and closing it.
You can set graphics settings at the highest resolution and farthest clipping distance without any problem.
I also tried making my GOG version work, via Heroic Games Launcher, but didn't manage (though it should be possible). I had to re-buy it on Steam.
I'm playing this on the Steam Deck. I followed AlexS instructions. It crashed after a while so i changed to Proton 5.13-6 and no problems
Download dgVoodoo files http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/bin/dgVoodoo2_73.zip.
Copy files from MS/x86 folder to game folder (Omikron/).
Add startup command line WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n" %command%
Installs ok and seems to start ok (audio, Eidos intro) but on hitting the main menu gets stuck.
Download dgVoodoo files http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/bin/dgVoodoo2_73.zip.
Copy files from MS/x86 folder to game folder (Omikron/).
Add startup command line WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n" %command%
No window mode
Intro video plays strange
Played with Proton 6.3-8 and commandline WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n" %command%
Needs dgVoodoo2 files

So close!
Intro videos "play", but upon reaching the main menu it renders a few frames then freezes, you can still "navigate" the menu and get audio feedback, but the visuals remain frozen. You can simply hit enter, type your name, then enter again to start the game, but you will still see the frozen main menu. I even used the dgvoodoo dlls and WINEDLLOVERRIDES=βddraw=nβ %command%, but it doesn't seem to work for me, Glorious Eggroll, Experimental, and every other proton version people had luck using here didn't yield any playable results for me. Might be yet another Navi issue, wish I got the Vega 7 instead.

As on Windows: Download http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/bin/dgVoodoo2_73.zip, extract it, go to the extracted dgVoodoo2_73/MS/x86 folder and copy the 4 dlls to ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Omikron/.
Rightclick on Omikron - The Nomad Soul in your Steam library -> properties and add to the launch options: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n" %command%.
To get the cutscenes at launch to work use Proton-6.1-GE-2 https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/6.1-GE-2. They play a bit glitchy, but they work. Alternatively you can watch the intro here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiGrClPf7X8.

Game hangs at startup menu.
Tested with Proton 5.0-7, 4.11-13, 4.2-9.
It's a blast from the past, it requires some tinkering since it's an old game, but it's definitely worth it
As others mentioned. Copy the DLLs from dgVoodoo2 into the game and launch with options: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n" %command%
Stutter when notifications overlay
No issues once you have the dll files from dgVoodoo 2 and use WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n" %command%
Downloaded dgvoodoo. http://www.dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2.html Extract from the zip file the dlls from MS/x86 to the game dir. I made the dll names lowercase. In Steam game's properties "SET LAUNCH OPTIONS" this worked for me: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n" %command%

As a other user said, works fine after adding dgvoodoo. Without that the game stuck at main menu. I didn't notice any crashes or random freezes after 6+ hours of gameplay.

Download dgvoodoo. http://www.dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2.html Unpack dlls from MS/x86 to game directory. Run override all 4 dlls either in command params or via winecfg on game prefix. Only thing that doesn't work is video playback, but there are only 3 clips at game launch with logos, so not much of an issue.

The screen startups with the background frozen and nothing is able to be selected. The music plays in the background but frozen. Only way to stop the process is to kill -9 on the Runtime.exe that Omikron starts.

Launches with music, but just sits there at main menu. Hitting enter to start a new game makes a sound, but it never happens. Alt-tabbing out and back in does nothing either.

The game freezes on the start menu (using arrows triggers sound which suggests that the menu is working, but the picture is not working at all). No workaround seems to work. The gog.com version works without problems out of the box on Wine 3.0.3 (default Wine config, no additional installations, fullscreen 1600x1200 res, 2560x1440 res - everything just works). As this is allegedly identical to the GOG version, this behavior is bizarre. What am I missing here?

Picture is frozen on main menu

Works but at extremely low frame rates
