Plays out of the box with Eggroll version without any major issues.
Was only able to get the game to run by using the Windows 7 game beta as others have advised. But the game ran unplayably slowly.
Frame rate in the single figures, unplayable, despite the game running fine on this exact same hardware under windows 10.

Worked fine out of the box.
Video in cutscenes stutters sometimes

There is a Beta (in Steam Game Properties) for "win7 - Win7 Compatiblity". This fixes the borked playing of in game videos.
The videos are in OGV 1080P low compression format. Proton (up to 6.3-5) is unable to play these videos and it can lead to the game crashing if you try to play the longer videos. The win7 compatibility includes it's own OGV player I'm guessing.
I'm using a PS3 controller and presses of L2 and the D-Pad buttons are not recognized by the game.
You are unable to select any save games except the last one. Trying to click on an older save will cause the game to crash. This is actually not that big of an issue I found as I never needed to go back to an older save.
If you do need to remove saved games to get to the one you want then the game saves are in the game folder. The directory is called "Saves". There are sites saying the game saves are elsewhere but they are incorrect.
The in-game mod manager does not work.
Ignore it and use the external mod manager called "SPG2ModManager.exe" in the game folder. Use this to install mods downloaded through Steam. Also don't forget to activate the mods as well in this tool. A number should show in the box beside the mod name.
If you have lots of mods you should consider putting this game on an SSD. Having a lot of mods large mods installed can really slow down game loads.

From my 2 hour test, I didn't notice any kind of bug that would hinder the gameplay.
Cinematics freeze at some point but that doesn't hang the game.
Install script very flaky, possible graphical corruption, possible hang at loading screen and corrupt sound.
~2 seconds of white noise occurs every few minutes during in-game videos and main menu.
Enabling anti-aliasing led to a corrupt intro videos and main menu. Change setting back to 1 in config file in root directory of game.
Install script took a very long time and hung at "Installing DirectX for Windows" several times. Also got stuck at loading screen when starting a new game.
Hung at loading screen one time.
The game occasionally closes when attempting to load or save games.
Looks like the bitmap file associated with the save gets corrupted, making the game crash on load/save.
Crash when loading/saving game
Game launched in Windows 7 mode (doesn't work otherwise). Tried with multiple new games.
Log file : Error!!! GetButton in panel <Spg2\Panels\MENU_MainMenu.pan>

Seems to load up, and play just fine. Only gave it a few minutes but was able to get into the game, and play about for a bit without issue. Seemed to work without any problems.

Works perfectly now
black screen at start and later crash. Try with win7 compatibility and the game don't start

All works without tweaks but laggy, which maybe my specs

Generally runs, but AntiAliasing doesn't work at all, breaks Rendering completely.

Works perfectly after enabling Windows 7 compatibility (right-click game in Steam library, select Properties, then Betas tab) and launching the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

As someone mentioned before, works fine with Windows 7 compatibility mode (open in steam the properties of the game, you can choose the w7 mode in the beta tab).

I had to opt into the windows 7 compatibility mode of the game, but after that everything seemed to work. (Go to the games steam properties and then the "betas"-tab)

Tried to start it without any additional tweaks and by installing xact through protontricks. Either way, the game crashed before even really starting.

No tweaks done (my first test, not sure what can be done) just installed and tried to run. Crash to Desktop after initial screen opens with load bar.

Crashes on loading screen

freezes while loading menu

Crashes on first loading screen.

Crashes 1/3 of the way through the loading screen with a read fault

Game is 64-bit. Crash on startup in xaudio2_7 even with winetricks xact
